I've been helping a buddy out with his 18' Baja equip'd with a mid 80's 200 Merc. had alot of trouble from bottom end gears to cooling to fuel but I think we gotter sorted out. Took the (plugged up) filter out of the 23 year old built in tank and and added an inline. Next had to change the ball and finally rip the carbs apart. Didn't find much in the carbs so I talked him into buying a set of Chris Carson reeds. We pulled the intake and found approx 1/2 the old reeds were sprung somewhat open and 1 was chipped. Put the CCM reeds in and the boat did it's best ever 58mph with a 19 pitch prop and no issues. He doesn't have a tach hooked up yet but will before we start playing with props.

OK, enough bullsh*t. My question is we are still getting gas/oil residue outside the front of the carbs. Is this normal? It's not dripping wet like with old reeds but just curious if it should be dry.

Thanks CC, I'll be ordering a set for my 225 Johnny, haven't installed them in my 175 Rude yet.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
