Can the older bottom 2001 drag boats hang with the new bottom 2001 drag boats, quarter mile speaking? I know they stretched the wings out for a better hole shot, but technically what else was changed? One more question, has anyone ran an allison drag boat/2.4 combo in Pro 120?

Thanks for your comments,
Mark

Don't claim to be an Allison expert anymore as it's been years since I've owned one. I was talking with Bobby Warren about
this at Jasper, and HE certainly is........
It turns out he and Eric Saloom, who have a couple of the hottest
Allisons in this neighborhood, both own '94 models.
They seem to always be there. Bobby just took 4th and Eric got
5th in U/O at Jasper. Bobby won a U/O race earlier this season.
Ask them. They'll be straight with you.

Steve

Thanks Steve, I know alot of guys that still race the older bottom boats. Almost seems like there are more old bottoms than new bottoms. I think once you get comfortable driving one or the other, that is what you probably prefer. I have just heard people talking about how the new bottom is supposedly getting better hole shots and being more driver friendly. Oh yeah, Steve, looking good in that quartermaster!!! Hope to see you making more ODBA races with it next year.

Good Luck,
Mark

You gotta race the big boys if you want to see how you're running. And the big boys were out in force at Jasper!
Watching our and Raptor's videos, I can tell we were over propped/geared.
I had plenty of top end, just needed some more bottom end.
I can tell that my set up is for rope racing courses of 1320' + 125'
runup. Another 125' and I would have been OK.
Oh well, I've got all winter to fine tune for the ODBA format ;).
I think that you are on the right track for Pro 120. The Allison is
very efficient for turning a given amount of HP into MPH. I would think in that lower HP class, it would be perfect.

Steve ;)

There was one in Pro 120, that ran in Jasper and in Alabama with a 2.4. Scooter something, with a turquoise and white Ally. I don't know if he is on the S&F board though.

IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE NEW ALLISON BOTTOM IS EASIER TO DRIVE WITH LESS SLAP TO THE LEFT OUT OF THE HOLE. IT IS ALSO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE 1ST GENERATION ALLISON, THOUGH HARDER TO SET OFF THE LINE WAS QUICKER ON TOPEND. THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD AND HAVE NO FACTS TO BACK IT UP. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT MAKE SENSE. ALL I KNOW IS THAT THE MORE HP YOU PUT ON ONE THE FUNNER IT GETS TO DRIVE. IF SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME TO PUT NOS ON MY BOAT WHEN I FIRST LEARNED TO DRIVE IT I WOULD HAVE SAID YOU ARE CRAZY. NOW I CAN'T GET ENOUGH. I THINK BY NEXT YEAR I WILL BE LIKE ZUCKERMAN WITH LEANBURN, 1ST AND 2ND STAGE.LOL. THANKS ERIC. BY THE WAY I HAVE A 94 WITH THE 2ND GENERATION PAD. IT SEEMS TO DO FINE FOR ME.

Eric, sounds like we've been hearing the same things. Thanks for posting those pics. The last one, up close on the pad is wild. Good Luck with the boat in the future. It's amazing how things have changed in just a few years. I am fairly good friends with the first person to ever run an Allison in Unlimited. His name is Terry Smith and everyone told him he was crazy for putting NOS on his boat and trying to drive it. Next thing you know, he was kicking some major butt. Unfortunately, Terry was involved in a bad car accident and had to sell his boat. They still run his boat in Unlimited. The guy that drives the boat now has the last name of Smith as well, but they are not related. It's the white 2001 with the purple, teal, and checkered board graphics. Terry put some plates on the back left to help the slap. Anyhow, thanks again.
