My boat is a 350 with a sterndrive, but it seems this entire site is mostly about outboards. What other sites could I transfer to that have more knowledge about sterndrives? I'm really not getting many responses to my questions here.
Thanks in advance!

Just seems like people aren't willing to help much, seems like the threads with the most activity are people babbling about some upcoming meet, or reliving the good ole days. Not so much help with any questions.

That's what most people do in the "GENERAL DISCUSSION" area... Try the "TECHNICAL DISCUSSION" -- http://www.screamandfly.com/forumdisplay.php?20-Technical-Discussion
or
try http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/general-q-20/ OSO is almost all i/o's

HMMM:confused: I went back over your 69 posts and it seems to me people helped when and where they could. Bill (Mirage 243) offered assistance and you come back with a post like this . Not a good way to make friends and influence people :nonod:. Even in your other threads with questions when you didn't receive an immediate answer you came back with Bueler, Bueler, Bueler.
You might want to try a different approach.

LOL! Sometimes it does seem that way around here. I understand what your say'n, lol. BUT, if you ask a specific question, and only one question at a time, I'm sure there are enough knowledgable people here on the board to help you. So...Whats your first I/O question?

One problem was that in the beginning you seemed to want to ask a question and then argue with the answer. There is a deep and diverse knowledge pool here if you go with the flow instead of trying to force it to adapt to you.

WOW , Babbling , about Some Upcoming Meet, and Reliving , the good Old Days !
Not Sure , what's wrong with that . As this is as much , a Social Group , as it is a Performance Boating , Web Site !
We look forward , to seeing each other , out on the water ways , and meeting new board members , when ever posibale . And also , helping each other , with our projects , what ever they may be .
Not sure , what the questions are , your not getting ansewered here are , as you haven't asked for help with anything , yet !
I can tell you , if you've got a question , about almost anything , you will get an ansewer around here .
Hell , I've even got help , with my lawn mower , here !

Yeah, it's not a race boat, it just seems like this forum is outboard centric. Just wondering where I could go with my sterndrive questions and expect more feedback. I figured you guys would know the ropes on all these places, and where I should head. I just got my 228 rebuild kit today, so I'm starting to read up on how to replace the bearing/bellows, but I also need to know how to align the engine, because I don't trust the mounts.

.................. but I also need to know how to align the engine, because I don't trust the mounts.
I can answer that: There's a special tool. I have one because I check the alignment on my 2 sterndrives whenever the engine is out or the drives are off. Any Mercruiser repair shop would have one. Whether they'd rent or loan it to you would depend on the shop.

Great answer!!! I seriousely doubt that any shop would loan or rent that tool. They would want the $80.00 +++ $$$$ per HR to do it correctly. `

You can purchase a drive alignment tool from Pro-Marine, their phone number is 1-800-621-7761, the part number is 18-4442 the retail price is 113.25. It will work on any Mercruiser drive. The motor mounts in question are not usually the problem, on older boats that have wood or floor rot the surface that the mounts are located on are usually rotten and it allows the motor to sag and creates havoc on engine alignment which will burn your coupler out in a heartbeat.
How is that for feedback??????? I will be happy to assist you further if needed.

Forgot to mention that you will also need a Gimbal bearing puller, hinge pin tool and a pair of bellows pliars to do the job correctly. If the shift cable is suspect, replace it also. The shift cable takes a special socket to remove it. When it's all said and done you will probably need 300 to 500 dollars worth of tools to do the job.

Try the V drive, Jet Drive forum on this site. I'm sure there are several if not many I/O guys on there. As far as the alignment tool. It is about 3 feet long or you would have to remove your existing drive shaft to align everything. Not practical at all.
Good Luck with your project !!!

This is not the first time I have seen this trend and there seems to be a clear pattern. The people who do not contribute at all finacially to Scream and Fly are always the first to recommend that members with a question or problem seek advice on other websites? I wonder if these types of people go to McDonalds and suggest that other customers go try Burger King.

Most guys and gals on hear also belong to other forums as well. Theres lots of other places you can find the information your looking for. But I doubt you'll get as fast a response and as accurate of info by an array of experts as you will hear. Theres so many Merc racing techs on this forum and the shear number of members makes this site the best on the net. Just because you don't have a race boat don't worry. 90% of us don't. Were just hard core boating enthusiasts that span many decades of pleasure boating and racing with knowledgeable folks as you just witnessed that are more than happy to give you free expert advice. Theres guys with boats ranging from rowboats to cabin cruisers and everything in between. Just be specific in your request and some one will help you or anyone with a problem or Q. We all love this site so anyone knocking it will usually get an earful!!:D Gota protect what ya love.

NO. the alignment tool does not have splines, you put grease on the shaft and insert it without turning, when you pull it out you read the grease mark for contact pattern. that's why they made the tool !

I would like to mention that even though you are a VIP member and contribute finacially to scream and fly .....you would think you would have a bigger post count to help these people with there questions instead of compairing them to McDonalds or Burger King and with that in mind read T2X's last post #33 ! Mr Cash if you feel you can not get the answers you need i suggest moving on to Mc Donalds or even Burger King or the other sites suggested above to get the answers that you need becauase time is of the essence when it comes to summer fun.

This is the best advice ever. This has worked for me ever since I dragged home an old vw dune buggy at 15 years old . Got a vw manual and read it front to back in my spare time. Repair manuals have always been some of my favorite reading material.

I have been watching your build thread all along. I don't think you are on the wrong site at all. I do think your boat is a little unusual set up with the outdrive. Usually boats like that are outboard, jet or v-drive. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, in fact, it will probably be more usable and practical than a lot of other things
I frequent the v-drive forums also and the people there tend to be more v-drive purests, not too interested in too much else. I think if you are patient and friendly you will find what you are looking for here.
