View Full Version : Mercury Tech Engine setback and height?

hello i have a 250 merc efi 25" on 24 superboat. its on 8" setback and is all the way raised up because the boat can take a 20" shaft motor. would it be worth adding 4" more back . would it make any difference in speed?i've been told i need 12" setback and not to sure were to put engine height . prop shaft were at what setback. thanks for any info.:thumbsup:

Im in the same boat, 21ft Scarab O/B getting the original 2.4 chrome bore Laser rebuilt right now. Been recommended to run 10-12" of setback and shorten the shaft from 25" to 20" (apparently it has a 5" shaft extender kit, so its a freebie mod to convert it back down), plus probably a Trophy Plus prop (going to test different pitches).
I cant help you too much on your height, but I think you want it where you can be at neutral trim and still have a little bow lift.

Alright try 10 to twelve inches back /prop shaft should be 1.5 inches below the bottom this is just a starting place GL GRASSHOPPER

Does the Superboat have the little Pad in the back like the Pantera?? If so, are you talking 1.5 below the pad, or where the true V would be??

I dont believe the 24 SB has a pad. Same hull as your Pantera. JMO
