will the switch boxes from an 85 175 with the 40 amp stater work with an early 78 model 150 charging system? what is the difference between the two systems? does the 150 have to have the poppet valve in it? i know it was designed to work with it but it didnt have one and will only get run in warm water sooo?..............thanks benji

Benji, switchboxes are tha same...40 amp or 16, don't matter...Stator, flywheel, and voltage regulators are tha differnce(and top cap bolts holding tha stator down, 40 amp iz longer and haz fine threads)...Tha newer 40 amp systems have 2 regulators, older haz one watercooled one...Stators are diffrent, BUT kan be manipulated to work with each type regulators...Packs may show diffrent numbers in tha book, but they are tha same...

U don't need tha poppit, but if it don't use tha poppit, use restrictors in place ov tha thermostats, and use tha diverters in tha block...I like use'in tha poppit wit a 2piece exhaust adapter, but have dun it tha otheer way with good luck(in warm water, summer use)...If ya have a 1 piece plate, juss set everthang up like a 260...no poppit, diverters, and restrictors....JMO
