Got a 89' 90horse 3 cyl. that is overheating when running wot. It pees fine on idling but when running on plane it seems to loose pressure somewhere and goes into a slow mode. When this happens there is hardly no water coming out of the pee hole. If you shut it off and start it again it pees fine, help.... is there a poppet valve on this motor. I removed the thermo with no luck, also changed the impellor but did not change the housing?????

I WOULD CK WATER PUMP BASE, BASE PLATE AND HOUSING AND GASKET SOUND LIKE AS LONG AS WATER PUMP IS SUBMERGED IT IS PUMPING GETTING AIR AT BASE , PLATE , GASKET , or motor is too high on transom to be run without low water pickup.

There is a pressure control valve. It is located under the same cover as the thermostat.
