I am getting my son a small run about with a 1984 Merc 50 classic

The motor has sat about 15 months ...the comp is 120 on all 4 its a good motor but the carbs were not drained

It would not run unless u kept the choke in

Anyway I took the carbs off and apart and cleaned real good and saoked overnite

Put them back on and it runs good on the hose etc

But the top carb was leaking (drip) around the bottom bolt that is in center of the float bowl...so I tightened it and it STRIPED not the bolt but the threads in the carb

Can this be fixed in any way??

How bout just JB Welding the float bowl on? As long as it has no leaks why cant I do that...it wont look good but so what

Loctite makes a thread repair product that should take care of that, as long as you don't use the breaker bar on it next time you tighten the bowl screw.:D
