The red circles- are these doing the same thing that Talons article mentioned? Are they stock? Can I do anything with them like close open with a controller?
Whats the blue thing that runs the length and whats it do?
Do the green slots allow the gasses to exit those external snouts? I guess its an off shore mid. The plate looked like it blocked those ports off. Why the slots? And any mods here?
Any mods I should do now while its apart? Seal up holes or open any thing up. I would like it to be both quiet and loud. One of those controllable deals. I can rig something if I know what it is I'm controlling.

It's not an offshore mid.
Offshore mids have a snout on the back, see the pic I borrowed~http://forums.screamandfly.com/pp311/data/500/297lake_017-med.jpg
It does have the exhaust relieved, same result as Talon 2.5's article.

The 10 holes in the bottom could be stock. Merc did that on the older hi-perf motors, and many people copy this.
I think the thing down the middle rear is just reinforcment and does little for exaust. Although it may hook up with those slots near the rear of the gearcase for some pressure relief.
The 2 slots in the upper rear are idle relief holes to let exaust pressure out when off plane.
A few years ago John Tiger did a good artical in Hot Boat where he used a Bob's exaust snout and made a flapper plate that was operated from the dash through a cable.
I like the idea of being able to open or close the noise that easily.
I have the issue in a box and I will find it asap.

I do have the snouts on the back.
It also has a large chunk that bolts on. I think this is whats called a solid mount? It has non-removable upper swivel mounts, and a plethora of studs sticking all over. I think they are for tying 2 OBs together? Not shown in either pic since its not on. This plate seals off the relief snouts except for those slots. Thats why I was wondering about that.
As for an exhaust relief where is the best place for one? I can cobble on an operable system if I knew where it should go.
Bottom where the red holes are? or in the middle where that brace thing runs or the snout area?

of all this other stuff ? It would help.
I have twelve -1/2" dia. holes drilled in the bottom where your 10 are.
I also drilled four 1-1/4" holes with a holesaw near the bottom of the mid section, (two on each side).
That seems to help holeshot alot, prop slips much less. I think the boats forward motion helps vacuum the water and exaust gas out these rear facing holes.
I could be full of it, but it seems to take off better since adding these 4 large holes. It sure sounds better.

polishing your whole mid-section ???

That part I don't have with me, so it'll have to wait.
I wasn't going to do anything with it but it does have the tuner on it. Thats probably something else I need to find out about.
The engine was a modified 2.4 I think for drag racing. So the 260 I'm putting on it probably has most of the stuff already modified. I know that the thinger the engine sits on has to be matched. And maybe something about cooling holes.
Everything but the ram is getting polished. The LU isn't but I have to get a replacement. And that part that isn't pictured. It's ugly and needs a cover.
The L shaped clamps will only be partially polished. The harder areas will be sand blasted for an even texture to counter the polished parts. Then everything gets Kandied and cleared.
I'm considering etching a design into the mid itself but this is only a thought right now. Coat with wax and scratch off what you want with a needle. Then cover with something that eats alluminum. The kind of design you would see on very old rifles, that kind of stuff. But it's still only a thought now.

Techno, your exhaust is already relieved. The red circles in your pic is wear someone, or the factory relieved the exhaust.
I am attatching the same pic I posted earlier with more detail.
The red arrow is pointing at the "snout" I am talking about. This is what makes a midsection an offshore. The green arrow and circle is where the snout you are talking about is.

I've gotcha know. Mine is just the size of the LU. Not longer or wider.
Now whats it for? Why is it offshore?
