I think there's a good possibility a bunch of y'all will disagree with me on this, but I'm all for bannin' thongs in public places frequented by families with young kids and even teenagers.
Unless I'm mistaken, many public beaches in Florida have banned 'em for years.

When I was a kid, my Grandad, (who's become smarter to me now with every year that passes, even though he's been gone for over 25 years) usta' say stuff like this, and I usta' think he was out of touch just like the reaction this is goin' to get, but anyway, here goes:

I DON'T WANT my kids and grandkids to think it's alright to show their ass in public, or otherwise make a spectacle of themselves. Even when I was growin' up and in school, there seemed to be a certain level of respect and respectability that's sorely missing today. The "in your face" saggin' britches thing that the minorities are doin, showin' their underwear and sometimes worse, and walkin' around holdin' their crotch in public is another similar example.

I like seein' a great lookin' gal (even though most of em would refer to me as "sir" now:( which is very troublesome in itself) in ALMOST nothing, or better yet NOTHING, but there's a time and place, and injectin' it into family atmosphere like beaches ain't either time or place for it.

Again, soundin' like my Grandad usta' sound to me, the conventional family in America is under seige with media available to all ages that seems to promote promiscuity, as well as public behaviour from those with NO upbringin' and I think almost all social statistics suggest that some level of restraint and respectability was probably a better path. Here in central Georgia, the birth rate to unwed black mothers last report I saw was something above 80% and approaching 50% for whites. Of course this GREATLY increases the likelyhood of criminal behaviour and general failure in life when the offsprings are raised in single family homes, not to mention the repeating of the cycle generation after generation.

Back to the point, having seen both the before and after of where we were say 40 years ago, and where we are now, it was a better place when there was a higher level of respectability and moral standards. I think the people that oppose restrictive moral standards maybe oughta' to ask themselves if they're willing to let their own 13, 14, 15 year old daughters parade around in thongs in public, because that's the normality that seeing others do it suggests.;)

If thongs have been banned at any beaches in Florida they must be all up north. I've never heard of it. Thong bikinis are a little passe here anyways. They've kinda gone out of style unless the girl is competing in a bikini contest or something. Still you can see the occasional thong-clad woman on South Beach and certain parts of Fort Lauderdale beach. The locals here know which beaches are "family friendly" and which beaches are more "adult-only".

Much better odds on FL, but face it there are way more ugly ones than eye candy. Around here they just keep getting larger, and at younger ages.

I agree with ya Raceman. This country need some decency. Parents should be able to bring their kids to the beach without a bunch of people running around with their ass hanging out. If a city wants to keep a modest dress code for their beach they should be able to do so. It's their city!

Never said I don't approve, and sho' as hell ain't said I don't look, just don't think it's appropriate on public beaches where there are kids. I just see a HUGE moral slide and think it cost us tons............ both in quality of life and tax dollars. I think kids need to have a positive example set for 'em instead of the "if it feels good do it" mentality we seem to encourage now. At my grandson's 3rd birthday party a couple of weeks ago, there was a kid runnin' around with a mohawk. Somebody asked his mother what in the hell she was thinkin'. She said he saw one on TV and wanted to do it, and she thought it was just a way of him "establishing his personality". It made me think of the hippies when I first went to college. Those idiots were finding themselves too. Of the ones I knew, ain't a single one of 'em ever amounted to squat.

Here's a thought that is gonna REALLY define me as grumpy and old fartish Paul: I heard it from somebody a lot older a LONG time ago, and thought they were full of crap, but he said the reason the Japanese and Chinese would ultimately pass us economically and socially was that they had a strong moral ethic, which included a strong work ethic. He said that the younger people actually respect their elders as wise and try to learn from and expand on their experience. I thought that was a huge load of BS back then, but it's pretty much true. The people now who have to find themselves and always chart a new path through life spend so much time doing it that they waste the first half getting back to where they should've started.

I think the idiot that we have running the country now is a prime example of the fact that younger people should study history more and try to use it to their advantage.......... using the successes and rejecting the mistakes............ instead of getting starry eyed over ideology (or maybe idiology would be more accurate). We've got an overwhelming percentage of teachers at every level now, ESPECIALLY in colleges and universities who have NEVER accomplished anything much in life themselves, yet profess to shape social direction.

Geez Norris...though we've butted heads in the past more than once, and still don't agree much on V4s and inline sixes, I sure do applaud what you have been writing lately when it comes to your views on political and social topics of the day.

Forkin! Stop trying to make me lose my dinner! I don't want to see photos like that of the First lady.....if that is who it is :D

There is no doubt if you look at moral ethics and the success of societies, well, there is a reason for them. I wonder if the poor inner city people will ever wonder what the democrats they elected have done for them. The ironic part is those same democrats are bringing the pain to everyone with this sucky economy and expensive programs....it will not work, or not work any better than Greece and all the rest that have gone down that road.

You should know Norris that I am only yanking your chain. With age comes wisdom, not the other way around. ;)

I can see the Japs doing that, but with out the help of our economic decay, the chinese wouldn't even have a foot hold. JMO

Liberal parenting has a lot to do with where we are. In my day growing up, you'd get a "switchin'" if you back talked or disrespected your elders. You don't see that now days. You get time out. :nonod:

Europe has had topless beaches for years I dont see how it has effected there society negatively. I think it all comes down to how your parents raise you and not your enviroment.

Greg posted some pics of a beach around the turn of the last century. All the women were in dresses down to there ankles. Immagine how they would react to seeing a woman in a modest one-piece.

My thoughts exactly. I was in Italy a few years back with my wife at a train station, It was awkard for us to see people making out while waiting for the train. Nobody else seemed to care. I learned very quick that europe is a lot more accepting of PDA,it is on billboards, commercials, etc.
