I ordered an auger for the combine last fall and when UPS showed up it had been banging against other packages all day long and the driver was laughing about it. I have received many packages that looked like they suffered a similar fate!!!!!!

I shipped a nice little antique Johnson alky motor to California from work via UPS. I crated it very good. Our normal UPS driver at work picked it up. Our parts manager said he hollered at the driver when he went to load it because he was rolling it(it was a rectangular box) end over end to the truck. he told our parts manager, "if it don't make it to my truck, it will never make it to California"! The crate arrived at it destination in bad shape but luckily the motor only had very minor damage. That was my last UPS package!

INSURANCE! It's cheap, or used to be. When I was in parts at a John Deere dealer years ago, UPS insurance was 35 cents per $100 (after the first hundred). You could insure something for $2K for like $7. When you insure something for big $ all of a sudden they get REAL careful with it.
It's WELL worth it for the peace of mind.

I worked one holiday season at UPS when I first moved back to florida.....Let me tell you, it is ridiculous what the loaders do to packages. Not to mention, peeking in to see if there is anything they can take, but stepping on, throwing packages so they dont have to carry them, dropping,,,,it is unbelievable...

That is strange, UPS boxes look like new here most of the time. I know they have never been happy when they changed to allow the large and heavy packages, maybe that is it. I don't get that size stuff. When I ship it gets wrapped in bubble wrap a few times. One day I got something that was just a ball of the big bubble wrap lol. I have had USPS trash stuff even from one hour away.

That is what I call them: OOPS!!! Even if you pack it right, that is their out if it is damaged... Improper packing. I know my LU from Bob's was dinged up and scratched.
I bought a UPS wreck off fleabay. It was an early 60's 3hp Evinrude that hardly had a scratch on it, less being broken IN HALF with numerous dents in the fuel tank. Cheap runner though!
Then again I've gotten good service too. That is the least that I expect as much as shipping costs now days!

Man i guess i'm lucky my ups guy even puts the packages in the porch if i'm not home. Fed ex can't even seem to find the right house even though it is clearly marked in three spots.

Insure with UPS? Have you heard the horror stories about trying to collect even a penny on a UPS insured item? About the only time you can collect the insured amount is when they completely loose it. Otherwise they claim you over insured it and only pay a small fraction of what you claim. Even if they loose an expensive item, they may try to pay you for a "replacement" rather than the full value you claimed.
UPS did a "computer upgrade" last winter and could not find my house right on the main road for a whole month. Had to have a driver on another route explain the problem to their office because they just could not figure it out. The problem was my house appeared to be in one delivery zone, but was actually in another and the driver was not allowed to cross the imaginary line and look for my house on the same street he was making other deliveries.

I had a Bob's LU that was in the factory shipping box, that the tip of the cone was flat from hitting the concrete.
I had to send it back , but I probably could have fixed it myself.....but it was new, and I wanted it right.

a few years ago i had ordered a bed cover for my truck off fle bay was shiped vi ups. 3 months back and forth with seller. ups and my self. ups driver said he put it against the door of my house by drive way. even talked to him my self. asked if he opend the fence gate to do that and how he made it past rottie. he said no gate and no dogs... ok wrong house . can you please go back to the house you droped it at and get my package. week later he called and said he could not find the house lol. he forgot were it was. caled ups again and asked if they were going to pay me for the package. went to clames. they have the driver call me again. ughhhh now i was really upset and told him to come to my house and show me were he put it. again a week later he calls and tells me he could not find my house....i kept in tuch with the company that sold me the bed cover, they called ups many times and got no place , so then sent me a new one feeling bad and used a diffrent shiper and said they will never use ups again for all the problems they have had. mark75h your so rite about them not willing to pay even if there is inshurance on a package.

I've been using UPS for 15+ years having parts etc shipped from the USA to the UK, and have never had a single problem! Had something shipped Fedex last week, urgent AM delivery from IMCO and they lost it, guess it's all down to luck in the end.

I had a $3000 telephone gateway coming by UPS one time. A neighbor living about a mile away (Co 5 instead of Co 55) brought it over. Said it was left on her porch.

It is even worse for shipping to Canada. Their brokerage rate is often nearly the cost of the item. Then we are taxed on their charges also. It can be actually "cheaper" to use 1 day air as the brokerage cost is included. I only use USPS for Canada shipping and found it faster then ups also.
