This is a real handy little web page, you input your shipment value, shipping company (Fedex, UPS, USPS etc...) shipping cost, and it calculates the total cost for you including exchange rate, customs, duty, taxes, and dispersements. It is for shipping from US to Canada.
:thumbsup:Hope this helps someone out with all those suprise costs!

With UPS you don't have to pay brokerage fees, just tell them at the door you want to self clear. Or, if you can get the tracking # from the shipper, call the 800 number and tell them you want to self clear and it won't get delivered.
Fed Ex doesn't have this option.

What do I have to do to clear the package then? (self clear)
I also read that you don't have to pay the dispersement fees either if you call them and prepay for some other fees.
Also, according to UPS website, if you choose expedited, there is no brokerage, its free.

1. Go to the UPS self-clear office and pick up the yellow piece of paper. Make sure you have your paypal receipt with you.
2. Go to Canada Customs and pay the PST and GST.
3. Return to UPS and pick up item.

The 800 number is in Moncton NB so they know the drill.

The problem in my area is that the closest port of entry is too far away for me to save myself money by self clearing. If you pay for expedited service with UPS, there is NO brokerage fees...
Another way is to get the shipper to mark the shipment as a "Warranty Repair" and you will not be charged for taxes or duties.
