1991 2.4 bridgeport, is this a good motor? Why do they call it a bridgeport? any problems?
I am new to outboards and found a boat I like with this motor, just want to get as much info as possible.

Bridgeport refers to the bridge in the exhaust port. In 1991 it was Mercurys factory hi performance model much like the 260 and 280 in later years. They came in three formats 2.4 carb or bass motor, efi and efi offshore. the efi,s can be a little finiky but I have a carb motor that is very reliable.

They were rated at 225 for the carb and 240 EFI but i would say they are not that far apart in hp. Daytona is a pretty big boat and for the most part bridgeports work best on light hulls. it depends on what you want for speed.

Like 2 see 80ish, It will be a play toy to cruise up n down the colorado river with the family. 5 people. Could I see mid 70s with boat full of family? I had a 19 daytona that would run low 70s with a 200 merc and all of us in it. I realize the 21 is heavier but I would like the bigger boat for comfort

80 might be tall but i think 70s is what i have read from those boats. should be more than a few people on here that have that boat. post up a question about the hull it might help you out.
depends if the bridgeport is healthy or tired . and prop selection.
