Long story short:

Last fall I bought a 23' cougar mtr with twin 225 promaxes. Port motor was blown and need a powerhead.

-I bought a powerhead and put that on the port side. It was stock. It idled well and ran pretty good.
-The starboard motor had the brucato SVS and it idled well in neutral but stalled sometimes in gear... off idle it runs great.

Just before winter I put a SVS on the port side (I had it from the blown motor). Since then, the port motor has idled okay in neutral, but gives me all sorts of fits in gear. It stalls very often when shifting or if I come off plane and then just idle in gear it ends up stalling. Sometimes I can go like a few minutes of it idling in gear then it starts giving me fits. If I give it some throttle sometimes it spits and sputters (sometimes stalls) until it gets about over 1,500 rpm. It seems somewhat intermittent. I replaced the stator last fall as well when I did the SVS as the stator crapped out on me. Just putting the the SVS on the one motor gave me a few mph on top end and more punch.....but i want to idle sometimes too!!

The starboard motor idles the same as it did before and only stalls once in awhile. Its very annoying trying to dock or idle up somewhere when one motor is stalls and the boat turns from the other motor....

Port motor has A17 ECU, and compression of 110-118
Starboard has A32 ECU, and compression of 135-138 (musta had some work done before I got it)

Is there a problem with the SVS and idle?

The 118 sounds low, the 138 sounds about 5 high. I put an ACU with a steamwheel on my Pmax and dial it up when its cold and then dial it to a -10 for idling through no wake zones and it purrs like a kitten.

110-118 is signaling a problem with ring bore health for sure. The other motor's compression numbers is in line with a stock Pro max at sea level. Might wanna do a leak down sounds like" ole Paint" ( Port Motor ) is getting tired. You can help the low idle by adjusting the sink and link and you might try bumping the idle timing just a tad too..

Good luck,
