Ok,
My 175 HP yamaha two stroke Runs good for the most part except, sputters a bit at an idol and wont rev past 3200 RPMs. It does start every time within two to three seconds. I have replaced all fuel line and filters. Also replaced fuel bulb. When I get past 3200 it sounds like its running out of gas.
The weird thing is that the fuel balb does not get to hard. Also, I have a clear fuel filter, it never has any gas in it. I was thinking I either have a bad check vallve or a bad fuel pickup in the tank its self. Any thoughts ?

Sounds like it could be sucking air, maybe the pick up broke, happen to me.
Ckeck plugs, carb's, timing, ect.....

First thing I would do to isolate the problem is to try running with an external tank to see how it behaves. If it still mis-behaves, then it is not the tank or line. If it corrects it, then it is in the tank or line.

Yeah, thats a good idea. Can i use a reg gas tank with no pick up and just place the line in the tank? I also got some sea foam, it was cheap and should treat the gas and take care of any build up in the carb (to a point).
I don't know if the Yamaha is like the Merc as far as stator design. If you were describing this issue with a Merc I would almost guarantee you you have a bad stator. They Mercs have a low speed and high speed winding. The high speed goes down and motor will run perfect up to about 3000 rpm then falls on it's face. Call Rapair or someone like that and maybe they can tell if they have the same design and function. Good luck.

Hey,
Really appriciate all the advise, I may just take it in. Not worth taking a risk.

Likelyhood of stator problem is very slim. Very likely to be a fuel restriction.

One weird thing, i pulled all the plugs, they all looked really good. Slight color to them but none burnt or anything, all really clean. But one plug looked brand new. Like its not firing. I think the best thing to do is first try a spair tank. Its a no cost test. Prob best to take it in after that. Any one tried sea foam?

If you try an external tank I am not sure if putting the hose in a regular tank will work. I would steer away from that and borrow one with the correct yamaha fittings.

If it has individual coils, I'm betting the one on the clean plug is dead.

I could do a spark test or start by swaping the one plug. i will also check the gap.
Cant say it enough, have not found the problem, but really appreciate all the help!!
