The local Walmarts in my area have all stopped carrying the Fully Synthetic Pennzoil 2-stroke oil, and now they only carry the Synthetic-Blend XLF (extended life formula) oil.

Has anyone used this stuff? Good / Bad??

Thanks

Ian,

Many of my steel sleeved customers use and like the Pen. blends ...I'd feel comfortable running it.

I use gallons of it. It works well for me.

I had been running Penzoil Premium Plus in my Opti and found it created a lot less carbon on my plugs and prop hub than the Merc oils. I got a great deal on XLF so I bought a case of it and noticed it burns a little dirtier (more carbon) than the Premium Plus but still much better than the Merc oils. I do beleive Pennzoil recommends it as their oil for DFI motors. I would love to see an analysis to see what the diffrences are. I know Merc and Yamaha's DFI oils are high in molybendum and that may be the case here with XLF and aslo the contributing factor to excess carbon.
Sams Clubs have been getting Pennzoil now and then and the price was under $10 a gallon I think. Might be worth checking out if your a member.

I have burned about 4 gallons of the Penzoil XLF through the 200+ looper E-rude on my pontoon boat and like it. Good price for a synthetic blend.

Well, I just ran the first tank of fuel though the motor with the Penzoil XLF. The first thing I noticed was how clean it seems to burn then the motor is idling. My looper has always seemed to smoke a bunch when idling around the cover. The XLF oil probably reduced the smoke by half, if not more. I was VERY impressed with how nice it ran while idling around with a boat load of people.

Great stuff!

I buy 6 US gallons at Bass Pro Shop in Toronto @ $13.94 and work fine in my 90 Merc..

I started running it last season because I thought the Mercury oil was dirty and was getting too expensive anyway. No complaints and it is widely available. You can buy up to 6 gallons for $11.94/gal at Bass Pro during the Spring Classic. I stock up every spring and use it in all of my outboards and my snowblower.

at the risk of being redundant, i too am very pleased with the penz blend. been running it for quite a while now. several motors that it feeds, no compaints what-ever.
if i had any doubts about it id do a bearing load test, just never felt the need.

As I have stated in the past,I like the attributes of both petrolem ans synthetic lubricants, the Penn semi syn has been my choice for several year. Less carbon, minimal wear, and a good price,Chris

It sure made my life easier. I now goto wally world and get it and I'm done. Before I was burning Merc. the ordering on line paying way way too much.

I'm thinking of switching over to XLF. The Mercury oil is getting too damn expensive. XLF is less than half the price of Merc Premium Plus.

I think it actually smells better than some of the other Pennzoils or Walmart oil that I've used in the past. Smells more like Merc oil when it burns. Not the same, but better than the other bargain oils.

I'v been using Pennzoil Premium Plus for about 3 or 4 years now. I do a fair amount of idiling looking for fishing spots and some long runs about 20 miles or so and the spark plugs always look clean even after the long low RPM's.

Academy Sports sells it for $13.00 or so.

Jay,

what's the consensus on using the XLF on a Nic motor?

I have been running the pure synthetic in the V4 since I was spinning it over 6500 occasionally but I am down under 6300 now and I think I am going to just run the PP or XLF in both motors. The full synthetic is pretty stinky/smokey IMO and I probably dont need it.

Okay. Made the switch today. Stopped at my local Walmart and picked up 14 gallons of XLF.

I've been running Pennzoil XLF for the season, and I'm happy with it. For (my) added security, I add 0.5 oz of oil/gal of gas to the fuel tank to augment the oil injection.

I run Blue Marble at about $37/gallon. One reason is becaue I hate the smoke from normal oil and this nearly eliminates it. Do you think I'd be happy with XLF?

Heads up: Our local Wallyworld had XLF on sale for $13.00 per gal this weekend....that is a deal! I bought several gallons. You might want to check your local one.

Cheers-

Russ,

IMO the Pen. blend would be fine on the coated sleeved engines if rpms were at 8000 ish . If your going to the moon ( RPM wise ) I would think maybe you might need more protection , say like Red Line ..

This is what I suggest to my folks,

Jay

Hi i have a 1996 Johnson 225 ocean pro carb motor. the VRO disconnected. I have been using Evinrude XD 30. I just got a gallon of Pennzoil XLF. I was mixing 1 Quart of XD 30 to 12 Gallons of gas. What Ratio should i use with the XLF ?
