what did that sound like ?

I remember back in the day when I had a 140 Chrysler on the back of my tahiti. I was zipping across the lake WFO...and Bang !~!~!~! something flew right past head.

I looked back and there was this HUGE whole in the cowl and one of my carbs was missing and sticking in it's place was wrong end of the rod.

how long had that motor been sitting before you took the pics... looks like a lot of rust around the ports, rods, and cyl:confused:

Looks almost like you had some rust going on inside of there. I learned the hard way from Alk racemotors that needle bearings will rust in a New-York-Second and then things start popping out of the engine.

I agree...got this motor in a deal, prevous owner didn't know much about it but it had been sittin a while, I fogged the motor, uped the jet size cause it has velocity stacks, had 145-147 compression on the hose, new impeller, backed in river let run for awhile no overheat, was extreamly loud with drilled mid and alien cowl, seemed ok...I really wanted to know if this 20" motor bolted to transom was a wookable combo on my 25" transom PARAMOUNT 21' turned out bullet was 1" below pad with lwp CLE, boat came out great and rode flat, and was hauling the mail, till she let go...what a rush...I got another 20" 2001 OFFSHORE motor w/ CLE that is ready so won't be long and we'll be back, got a few 2.4 spare parts so not a total loss...:cheers:200974

man if those were current pics soon after being blown... that thing had problems to begin with (Rust) either had injeated water or Alk brought the water in with fuel. looks like to me it was possiably submerged and not dried out properly. whatdo the other holes look like?
