Hello all, I am new to this board and certainly realize I am not as knowledgeable about outboards like most of you. I just use my boat to take the family out fishing and to get out and enjoy nature. This weekend when out by myself fishing I had a major problem with my motor and I’m not sure what to do.ffice:office" /><O:p></O:p>
My motor is a 150 XR4 and was rebuilt several years due to the oil injection gear breaking a tooth and running lean. The motor was rebuilt with high end parts, I premix the gas, and has performed flawlessly until today. I was leaving my fishing area for the day and was on plane for maybe a minute when I heard a fairly load rattling/knocking noise coming from the motor, it lasted maybe 5 to 10 seconds and it stopped, I had backed off the throttle from around 5200 rpm's to 3500 and by then and the noise was gone. Being so far from the ramp and being in a remote area with no other boaters I kept it going at this RPM. I listened and watched the temp gauge closely with everything seeming OK. When I got back to the ramp, I noticed a lack of power when putting it on the trailer. When I finally got home I did a compression check and all cylinders and read 140 psi on all except the number 6, it read the dreaded zero. The piston is still going up and down with no compression. I'm sure this means a rebuild, but is there anything I can do to verify what is wrong. I cant see spending the money again on a 1988 motor, but its been real good to me, what other options do I have? Is there any dealers selling previous year close out motors for a good price and if so what motors would you all recommend and what ones would you stay clear of. Any advice or suggestions would help someone who is really depressed at this point, and who hasn't even told the wife yet. Thanks for reading, Rick N :(<O:p></O:p>
