Posted this on the PB forum, might as well post it here too...
On my last run around Modesto Res the other day, about 1:15 into it, I went into a slight right turn at maybe 40-45mph, and the rear end whipped around on me. No damage done, just a 180 the hard way.
The pump is a bone stock 12JC w/rudder.
My hull is a Hawaiian 19' w/2 strakes on each side, and has been extremely stable up to this point.
Not sure why this happened...maybe hit a little rut in the water?
I have watched this vid a bunch of times, and that's all I can come up with....trying to learn something from this....

When I got this boat a year ago this month, it had no rudder on it, and the second or third time out, I spun it around so hard that it nearly sank.
Dunked about 1/3 of the boat under water.
I had water up under my ankles, and barely made it back to shore.
The next day a rudder went on, and the boat has just been a pure pleasure to drive ever since.
Yeah, this reminded me of what can happen, and how fast it can happen.
Strangely enough, I cannot wait to go back out....with my vest on a little tighter...

That's the strange part...I was not turning very sharply at all.
Since the rudder went on, this was the only time it has come close to spinning out.
The water was a bit choppy, but nothing wild at all.
All I can figure is maybe I hit a little chop or a rut in the water and just lost it.
At least the boat stayed level and recovered quite well.
Good thing I was alone in the boat.
A passenger on that bench seat would have flown right out, or in to me.

It's a 78 w/460/Holley 450 x 2/MSD/12JC
19 foot hull.
I've had it a year.
It's the only boat I have owned, and I love the thing!
200633
200634
200635
200636
I had the pump out this winter, and had it rebuilt.
I just installed a loader too.
Other than that it is nothing too wild, but it is in really great shape compared to every other boat I looked at when I was shopping around.
The only Hawaiian I have seen, but I am new to all of this.

Are you holding yer nose ? ? ,,,,, puzz.
I've done a few ov' them, but not intentionally by any means.:o
When they happen unintentionally, it sure gives new meaning to the old saying ... " What the HELL was THAT ? ".

No diverter yet.
The motor is a 72 with the lowly D1 heads that everyone hates.
I just pour in a couple bottles of 104 and some 91 pump gas, and I don't get even a hint of misfire.
Works for me until it grenades or I win the lotto.
I don't play lotto, so, "fire in the hole!":D
2 17 gallon aluminum side tanks came with it.
This little mishap was at like 5:00pm, so maybe the low fuel level and my giant, light-bulb-shaped, cranial brain container made the boat top heavy.;)
Hard water?;)
I'm in Modesto.
Moved here from SJ a year ago.
