**Official 2010 Key Largo/Islamorada run**

Just in case some folks haven't seen the other thread, I decided to post a new "official" Keys run 2010 thread.

Dates are June 12-13 2010.
As usual, we will be meeting at the Carribean Club in Key Largo between 11AM and noon. This will give plenty of time for people to launch. The Club charges a $10 ramp fee and $10 fee to leave your truck/trailer. We'll leave as a "sort of" group and head south bayside to the Whale Harbor sandbar in Islamorada for fun, sun and cold ones. :cheers:

I personally prefer Saturday because it gives me a day to recoup before going back to work. However, lots of guys have expressed interest in staying the weekend so, we'll do it on Sunday too.

We've had really good turn-outs for our previous runs and we'd like to bring even more Scream and Flyers to the sandbar this year. Just remeber to bring plenty of sun block and make sure your cooler is stocked!:D

I can't stress this enough!!! We went out with 3 guys, and 30 beers, had a few at Holiday isle before the sandbar, and still ran out a few hours before we were ready to leave. I had Angel drop me off at holiday isle, walked up to the gas station and got more, DONT GET CAUGHT WITH AN EMPTY COOLER:D:cheers:


I am going to try to make it, since my boat sat on the trailer at the crib last year, but right now the Pantera is in 2 pieces(3 if you count the motor), gonna push to get it done in time.

I was told that it was good but its flexing to much for my taste. The knees they put in are starting to get stress cracks around it. The floor was the only thing that was replaced. What i would like to do is going composite everything and hallow stringers with foam inside.

Copycat, thats what I did on mine:D You could make it last some time by adding threaded rod, clevises to the upper motor bolts and tyeing it back into the stringers. Here is a rough sketch of what I was thinking of doing to mine, until I got drunk one night and cut the transom out of it.

There's quite a few places in Key Largo. Most are really basic but we don't plan on spending much time inside anyways. I recently stayed at the Key Largo Hampton Inn and was pleasantly supprised by how nice it was.

You can launch the Motion at Carribean Club. It's a bit shallow but the ramp's pretty good (especially for the keys). I've seen some really huge boats launch there that draft alot more water than your's so you should be alright.

You might wanna try to get there as early as possible so you can find plenty of space to park the trailer. The parking lot gets full pretty quick. Usually the backcountry fishing guys launch really early but they tend to be back on the trailer around 10-11 AM. After that the lot gets full of weekend warriors and general yahoos like us.:thumbsup:

Bartender's bash usually takes place on monday and tuesday. By wednesday, everyone is clearing out and heading home. I know a few people that went this year and I heard the crowd wasn't as big as usual. Probably a good thing. It was getting a little overcrowded out there.

Good to hear. Sounds like we're gonna have a pretty good turn out this year again. I know a bunch of guys who don't post much here that have expressed interest.

For the guys coming from Key Largo, you're looking at about a 25 mile bayside run each way from Largo to the sandbar and back, so make sure your tanks are full enough. The conditions should be near flat most of the way. I used to make the trip in a 13' Gamefisher when I was a kid so there's no reason to worry about getting beat up .

For the guys staying further south, there is the ramp at Kon-Tiki although I think you have to be a guest there. You can also use the ramp at Lor-a-lei. (I think that's how it's spelled) There's Whale Harbor and Holliday Isle right there also with public ramps.

Yes, you can use the Pennekamp ramp on the ocean side, just be sure to get back early because the park closes at dusk.

I was in south Florida a few years back in the winter and met up with Dave and Gary and a few others, had a great time riding to the Holiday Isle. The winds changed direction and we left Holiday Isle very fast, never got to see the the famous sand bar. I had a hell of time keeping up with the tunnel hulls in a side wind with rollers. Sure glad you guys know the water.

Mike, I can't make it back down this weekend...unfortunatly....but, If you'all are looking for a NICE place to stay, I highly recomend the Kon-Tiki! Very Nice Place To Stay! Good FREE USE Ramp, decent docking and Very Safe Place To Stay! Nobody bothers anything so you don't have to worry about your "stuff" being there when you wake up. Tom it has been really hot!!!!!! Water temp 90 degrees! We had trolled four hours not even a hit so we started heading back to the hump when we spotted two birds working low we set to troll for thirty seconds when he hit . One to two birds tend to work one or two large fish!Unlike a lot of birds working the schoolies. He hit a 6"rubber skirt black/purple naked lure! Twenty minutes later on the gaff. PS I couldnt spend a dollar in islamorada if i was i corona mikes view. Great time!!!!!! kon tiki was beautifull highly recomend it.:thumbsup:

My dad and Monty will be in the upper keys this weekend. Probably just hanging at the Whale Harbor sandbar. Keep an eye out for the 2 blue Actions 23 and 25ft. More than likely Willie Torrente will be there Sunday as well with the 24 Skater.

I heard the dolphin are biting but you have to go way out. My buddy caught over 40 a few days ago. Mostly on the smaller side but he was 35 miles or so off of Islamorada.

I've been having an issue with one cylinder coming in and out at higher RPM. I thought I solved the problem last time when I replace a plug wire that had gotten a bit rusty. I guess that wasn't the only issue. I guess 81 with 2 passengers and a full load isn't too bad for 5 cylinders.

You definately have to try to make it down there. I've been boating there my whole life and it never gets old. There's always a good group of people to run with and we try to go as much as possible. My dad's goes like every weekend.

Steve ...wind blew for 6 days !! Winds were SE - 15 - 20 ..gusts to 25 at times ...seas at the reef 4 - 6 ft... outside the reef 6 - 8 ft . I never got offshore , never got to Looe Key or American Shoal light . We cruised all over the backcountry and did some low impact fishing ...good trip though . Guys staying where we were with 31 Yellowfins , 34 Ventures etc were all getting beat offshore . This happens almost everytime I go !!!

We'll be there starting Tuesday the 15th through Saturday the 19th. Staying at the same place....Kon Tiki. Were fishing Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday rite now, and since my buddy has to work Sunday night, I guess we'll be cutting out about mid day Saturday.:( I noticed this was the old thread but, it's the same week...The week After Mothers day...that this years get to gether is. Hopefully it will be the same next year and I'll make different plans.:thumbsup:
