Can any one tell me if I can use a bigger card like an 8GB with a Nikon D80. I know that with my D50 I can only go to, I think, up to a 4GB.
Just got a new D80 and am looking for a 80-200 or 70-300 VR lens and would like to go alittle bit bigger on the sd card for now. My plan is to stay smaller so that way if I lose any thing I dont lose every thing at once. Thanks

i've never tried, but i don't see why not.

but 4gb is more then enough for a D80. That's what i used on both my D80 and D200, i only started using 8's when i got a D300s.

This is just me but i use multiple smaller cars 2+4 gigers so if there is a card curroption problem I only loose the images on that card not the whole days shoot.

Also on the 80-200 or 70-300vr. Those are both very, very different lenses and perform very differently even though the focal length is close to the same.

You need to weigh out what you think is more important to you, weight , build quality, aperture speed etc

You are not going to like the results of pics taken at over 800 iso on that camera, so the 2.8 ap of the 80-200 will come in handy if you are shooting in low light and moving objects.

Also the D80 has a small af-d drive motor so if you are looking at 80-200's make sure you get an af-s version not the af or af-d versions, focus speed will be lacking with those.

i have the 70-300 and it's a good lens and is light etc, but it's at 5.6 @ 300 and focuses to slow for a lot of ird in flight shots, moving boats etc

For the money, in the 300 focal length(if you need the length) i would recommend the 300 f/4 af-s and it works well with the 1.4x converter making it a 400 5.6.

the 80-200 2.8 and the 300 f/4 , 1.4x would make a great combo , but some more about what you want to shoot would help answer what you would like best.

I know you were originally just asking about cards but your two lenses you are looking at really aren't comparable, you either need one or the other basically, i use them for very, very different reasons.

Thanks for the info I had herd that any thing over 4gb would not work and was just wondering if that had any truth.

Once again you are the man. I know that you and I have talked about the pics from a helo on my last thread. I have had several people mention that the 80-200would be a great all around lens. I have an older version of the 70-300 not an ED but alittle older and it works good. But my main function would be to take some boat pics and more looking for an all around with a little bit of reach if needed. I have Nikon DX 18-135ED 1:3.5-5.6G, Tamron xr di 28-75mm, Nikon AF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 G and a Nikon 50mm 1:1.8D.
I love the 18-135mm this has been a great all around but I want something alittle more professional if you know what I mean. Some one here local has a AF Nikkor 80-200 F2.8 ED for sale for 525.00 and wanted to look at this before I buy something that I will not be able to use. Thanks again and am going to use the lens rent on some others as I save my dollers. Thanks again for all your input. I have alot of learning ahead of me.
