2.4 175 block w/hor. reeds.. I have been having a midrange miss in this thing for sometime and the motor never seemed to be as strong as i thought it should be..Well the miss started getting worse and worse but would still clear out at WOT..The plugs always looked good and the piston tops looked ok..Well yesterday I finally got curious and started pulling things apart. I first pulled the exhaust covers off(2 piece) and found not only that the chest had been very modified but #5 exhaust was alot cleaner than the rest..Next i pulled the heads and I find the gasket partially blown on #5..This motor has 150 to 155psi comp..I have timing at 22deg. @ cranking speed and have been running 93oct..I checked the heads with a stock 200 head and had .100" difference..I will be putting heads on that are cut .050"..Should I keep the same timing or can I go up to 25deg?It has WH46 carbs with 80 and 82 jets in it and the air box is off..It looked like there was alot a carbon in the exhaust..Does this setup sound like it should leaned out more???
I was only going to run this motor for this season then build a chrome bore.but now after seeing the mods on this motor I`m curious to see if it will run stronger..Its turning a 26 small chopper @6300rpm with a 1.87 gearcase..

Bump the timing up to 25*, and ever so carefully jet down a bit, you will most likely find a few more ponies. KEWL!!! :D

Kinda cool to find something like that when you pull the covers off ain't it. Good catch on the head gasket. Glad it didn't hurt anything other than performance.

oooohhhh so you won't be needin some of them nasty ol spare parts ya got there now will ya?? Hmmm Hey Pat did I ever tell you that your my favorite Red Vector owning friend?? :D :D

I pulled apart 2 out of those 3 powerheads I have and both had bad cranks and the block on 1 was shot and the other needs a sleeve..Still have 1 to go and I`m not too sure about it:(
I`m still going to build a motor for this thing:D

80's and 82's or.....78's and 80's wouldnt change it much!!

my old 2.4's timing was at 27 but had pyrometers to keep an eye on it while i played with it 50 cut heads and it turned 7000-7200
26 chopper 1.87 gear on the talon

can do some trick linkage adjustments around the carbs and stuff too :D
