I posted this on HS forums, but I'll try it here too.

Here's my question. I need a little advice on a prop.

What I have is; A 1987 Venus XT, 1988 200 Yamaha, 6" CMC plate, Low water pickup CLE lower, torque tab, drilled exh. below cav. plate (6 holes, 3/8ea.) and a Ballistic 25XL 4 blade prop with a solid welded hub. Prop shaft is 1-1.5" below the pad.

Currently runs 69-70 mph at 56-5700 rpm with full trim and a 2 degree positive wedge. This is with 1/2 tank and 2 people.

2 questions..I would like a better prop. Any ideas or good ones with this combo? This one slips a bit till you get it flying over 50, then you really feel it "hook up"

Ron Hill recommended a Eagle 4 blade 26 pitch.

What are the differences on this setup between say an ET, Drag or round ear chopper?

I normally like to run a pretty light load, and I'm looking for top speed and maximum economy. I don't want something that slips a lot unless you hammer it down. I still like to cruise at 29-3200 rpm in the 50's..

Thanks in advance, Ron

Ron Im told a 28 chopper merc or Mazco re28 is a good all around prop for our hulls. I have a 26 merc chopper on mine right now and when my motor was stock it ran 78gps all day long at 5600. We recently rebuilt the engine similar to a 245 and last run we did was the last of my break in . I have a mazco 28re coming I will let you know how it works out. Dave.

If you need more than full trim WITHOUT more positive from the wedge, you're already wasting thrust shooting roost into the sky. You need more prop induced bow lift, or more setback.

The ET and drag props aren't going to be the biggest bow lifters. Probably not the best in this case.

The chopper is going to be your best bet for an over-hub prop. 26p or 28p, depending on how hard the Yammy can spin it. You may have better luck with a Trophy or Tempest thru-hub, without the quirky holeshot tendencies of the over-hubs...

Good info guys I appreciate it.l I am bidding on a 26" Merc chopper on ebay right now. I'll try this drag and see how it goes..when I get my cooling prob figured out!! I really need a lower windshield too, or to cut mine down..its tall as hell. Was told it would kill bow lift as well.

Thanks, Ron

Let me know if you still need a 26 pitch Merc. chopper. I have one and its not working for me. It has 3 hrs. on it since it was redone and polished.

Gregg, I'll let you know if I don't win the bid on the ebay one. Is yours stock with weed cutters etc. or reworked?

I run a 30" et on my Hydrostream Venus 6800 rpm 95 mph 225 Promax SM, 28 chopper works well as well but 90 mph and change, 28 mazco re4 88 mph, all but the et are available for sale, have other ss props for sale as well for smaller power. Hope this helps raise your motor to.
