First post here, thanks in advance for any info, I have been told this is the place to turn for outboard info.
I have a 27 Daytona that I use on Lake Havasu but I want to get a 19 Daytona outboard to use on the colorado river. Since the 80's I have always wanted a 19 Daytona outboard. I am no hurry to get one, just starting my search and gathering info, and I want to wait for the right one to come up.
I would appreciate any info about the boat, what to look for, issues with the older ones, etc.. If anyone knows of any for sale in any condition I would appreciate the referral, I would be interested in a project boat as long as the hull is sound, but turn key is fine also.
Thanks, Walt

Might i suggest, being that you are on the west coast, keep your eyes peeled for a cougar 19mtr. Very similar boat but better quality, especially if you can find your self a b.c built cougar.
this is the newest company to build these boats http://www.cougarboats.com/60.html but the ones built in Salmon Arm B.C are far superior quality.
Problem is most ppl that have the chance of owning a b.c built cougar dont usually let go of them.
:cheers:Jay
P.S. if your interested in a cougar pm "dave strong" he knows alot about these things and might be able to direct you in the direction of one

The eliminator was a great boat for it's time, but was obsolete by the early 80's. They can be hard to turn and run bow high at speed. There are far better boats out there now.

Hey TNT...wasn't I just chatting with you on PB.com? LOL Anyway, for Havasu and the river, there may be better packages available for what you want to do. A couple of questions...
How fast do you want it to go?
What's your budget?
How many people/coolers, etc. do you want to be able to carry?
Are you going to ski behind it?
When you say the "river", do you mean Havasu or Big River or Parker or ???

TNT the 19' Eliminator is a great boat for the river. The ride of the boat is awesome when conditions are right. What to look-- transom, wet balsa...pull carpet up if possible. ask persons selling to take high def. pictures etc. Good luck with your looking.

Some guys like the look of the forks. The 21' is a better boat IMO. The 19' is nice but there's NO room in it compared to the 21 and it can't take the water like a 21 unless you're talking about water over the back when you're stopped. Fuel capacity is also something to think about.
I have noticed that more heads turn when we run the Picklefork compared to the Stoker, if that's a concern.

There was a real nice looking 19 Eliminator in the For Sale 20' and under section a while back.

If your going to the lake your going to get wet sometime.
They can be a little cold in the early spring or late fall, Havisu area shouldn't be an issue. JMO I like the ride hight.

IMO I dont think a Cougar is built better than an Eliminator if both built for the same purpose (weight). If fact I think the other way around.

Keith,
Yeah, that was me on pb.com. I am not worried about carrying people, coolers, chairs etc. This is just going to be a toy to play with on the river (parker) most likely during the week or spring and fall when I would have the place to myself. We have the Daytona 27 for Lake Havasu, this boat would be for the river only. I am kind of particular to the Eliminator brand as I have opened a bunch over the years. Actually a Mirage or STV have always made me wonder, and I thought about them as I really only want a purpose built go fast, light weight no frills pure performance outboard, with room for two folks max.
Budget.......less than $15,000.

TNT, maybe you should make a run to Havasu Fri/Sat April 16/17 this month...BBSP will likely have more than a few boats like you are looking for. I'm sure people would give you a ride to help you pick your poison.

P.S. There's a 1997 Stoker 20.4 SST that's been for sale for a while with a low hour 2006 Evinrude 225 H.O. supposedly rigged and serviced by Al Stoker that should be a really nice buy. Give Al a call and he could fill You in I bet, 714-827-7920. Boat's in Willow Valley, AZ,(just across the river from Needles). http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/boa/1670992802.html D.S.

Having owned a 19' Cougar MTR V-Drive, I concur with your comment. The boat has so little freeboard you feel very exposed. Similar in respect to some bass boats, only worse. The boat ran like it was on rails, but I always had the feeling in the back of my mind that I could be easily ejected if the boat ever hooked or got crossed up in a goofy wake.

I really liked my 19 Daytona. Great boat. Fast, great competition style and feel, easy to drive, well built. Handled like a slot car at speeds under 70 mph (didn't seem like a good idea to try turning fast over 70!). Was light enough and strong enough to fly over fairly rough water with a nice ride.
Drawbacks: Low freeboard, not much storage, got light over 90 mph. Also, the fuel tank brackets were screwed in from the bottom of the hull. The fuel tank brackets were the only issue I had with the boat. The countersink screws pulled out of the bottom and caused a leak. Because of the tight clearance, I was unable to find another way to attach the tanks. I resolved it by fiberglassing in some aluminum plates and re-attached the brackets the same way.
I loved it, however, my friends did not like how low it sat in the water. Amazingly, even on rough days, it didn't take on much water. Bobbed like a cork when sitting or idling around.
I really miss that boat, wish I still had it.

No such thing as to far away to buy a boat these days. Im south of Alaska and had a seemless transaction on my Allison I bought in South Carolina. Theres guys on hear that can help if you ask. If that STV is what you want that STV is what youll get. Theres guys with knowledge all over the country and chances are close to the red boat. They can go check it out for ya get more pics ect.. Lots probably know the guy. Theres also guys like frank Mole who have transport servaces for a fee ofcourse. But sometimes its better to spend a grand or two getting the right boat to you then saveing a grand on a boat thats closer and maybe not as good. Dont let miles stop ya.

The true best deal for what you want is for sale here in the hulls section. One of Greg Fosters old "Del Taco" sponsored ModVP GMT hulls. A real piece of ModVP history, an excellent hull with great racing manners, fast, and rare. The guy's only asking $2000 and you would have a totally unique ride. I'd already have it if I had a place to park it. You'll be sorry if you pass up this one for an eliminator.

There will be several STV's at BBSP in 2 weeks if you want a ride in one.
