View Full Version : Redoing the interior in my Vegas...need ideas!

I've been looking around for a while to try to find a good deal on a new interior for my 89' Vegas XT. Copycat covers wanted $800 to match what was currently in the boat, but I was going to have to do some work removing the old covers, and installing the new ones...kind of a pain. Even doing it that way it was going to be $800+shipping.
I found a lady locally that does boat interiors. I've looked though some pictures of her work, and she does an amazing job. She quoted me $500 to redo everything in my boat....front seats, rear bench, and side panels. I think that's a steal!!
I was wondering what you guys thought about the current color/design....and if I should think about having her change them a little more me. I definitely know I want to get rid of all of those buttons....but I'm not sure about the colors and the design.
Should I go with the colors that are on there...or should I mix it up a bit? What about the design?....got any ideas?
Any ideas, pics, or info would really help me out...feel free to photoshop anything if you want. thanks!!!
Here are some pics of the current original interior....

Personally I would get rid of the dated diamond tuck button stuff and opt for a more dated Tuck and Roll that seems to never go out of style.
I think White Tuck and Roll with Burgandy piping and striping and forget the black.
Same thing for the side panels.
Just my opinion.
Awesome looking boat.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...keep them coming! I'm pulling the seats out this week, and have to have them to the lady's shop by this weekend....and need as many ideas as possible so I can sort them all out in my head and have something figured out by the weekend :D
I wonder what Frank's interior would look like in my boat....but with gray instead of red?
Thanks again!!

If your back seat cushion is hinged like a Voyager, why not have the 1/4 plywood removed and have someone build you a spare fuel tank the same diminsions as the plywood seat frame. Then put a vent tube to the top of the original tank and have a valve on the lower tank fill.
Then when you want to go on longer trips, you can open the valve and fill another 15 gal. of fuel, and when you want to go fast, you can empty the tank into the original and block off the spare tank with a valve.
Just a thought since your going so deep into the interior.
Eliminator/West coast style, with every gel color represented in the vinyl, with lots of pleats. :)

Thanks for all of the pics and ideas guys. I pulled everything out of the boat last night, and it's heading to the upholstery shop today after work.
I think I'm going to try to go with a solid color...more like Chris and Franks. Maybe all light gray, with some black strips to add just a little color.
Any other pics or ideas that you can think of? Should I keep the side pockets on the seats, or get rid of them?
Thanks again

Great idea on keeping the outside pocket. I wanted the smoother look of no pockets, but you can't see the outside ones anyway, and the sure do come in handy
I'm going to see how much extra it would be to get the Hydrostream logo sewn in at a few places....:smiletest:

Well, I'm really looking forward to seeing what everything looks like when I get it back. I went with a light gray for the majority of the color, with a darker gray/silver carbon fiber/weave type vinyl for the accents.
I was a little unsure about the design I wanted to go with, but this lady was awesome when it came to designs and different patterns to go with. In a few minutes she sketched out an awesome design for the seats........all of your pics you guys posted really helped too! I'm hoping the carbon fiber pattern on the vinyl accents doesn't look to over the top, but she seemed to know what she was talking about. Those black stripes on the seats were always so hot..it will be nice to do with something not as dark.
Thanks for the advice Frank...I'm keeping the outside pockets, and getting rid of the inside ones.
I'll definitely post up pics when I get everything back and installed.

Mine is light gray also. I'm looking to get some Allison style buckets for mine to match the stock stuff. The light gray is nice, not to hot and not to hard to keep clean.

Yeah, I got two other quotes from places in my area and one guy wanted $1100 and the other $1300...and that was just to copy what was there, they said it would be more to add colors, or change the designs a little.
This lady does it out of her home...she's retired and says she used to work at a custom limousine factory for 20+ years doing custom upholstery. She showed me some of the work that she has done, and I was blown away. Alligator seats in some guys Hummer, some really nice custom seats in a Ranger bassboat...lots and lots of stuff.
Now the waiting begins...she said it's going to take her a little over a week to get them finished.
Post pics when you get the interior back.

Look at some 1990 interiors they have a different side panel that drops 10 or so inches in the back and trims the back seat out better i think personally OH and one more thing, i have mine not bolted down so it comes out after every trip and goes in the bedroom closet. That way, i use a fan to dry the boat out if it gets wet back there, and if im not carrying anyone in thre back, i leave it out. there is a chitload more walkin room back there without it. also, ive had short people sleep back there and all we do is set the seat up on thre deck for the night. laugh if you must, but i love to sleep out there every now and again. when i redid the transom, i mounted the tank up like 1 inch and ran the supports bow to stern so water could flow straight to bilge and when i set my fan on the floor it blows air all over rear floor and under tank to transom to dry it aqap and completely cause as we all know a boat will last for ever if it cant stay wet...........

Thats not my boat, I tried telling the owner to store it properly. Its owner has more money than brains and told me not to worry about its fine. 2 years ago we told him it had an ant farm in it He says they won't hurt nothing.... about 6 months later he goes out to check it out and the passenger seat was just filled with ants. At least now there is no more ants.
It is a 1987 with the original interior its still out back filled with water.

My vegas was a customers that went to prison. The boat sat uncovered all summer long I brought it in a shrink wrapped it on my own time not knowing the owner at the time. Then last spring we found out he was in prison so I bought the boat through a mechanics lean for 1/2 of the storage bill.

Well, I picked up my rear bench seat today. I think it turned out pretty slick. Way more modern look than the old stuff covered with the buttons....and she added some new foam that really firmed it up..it was really soft before. I sketched out an initial design, but I told here that if she wanted to change a few things around that would be fine.....and she took me up on it. Her design is a little more detailed that what I had originally planned...but I think it should look pretty good.
I can't wait to see what it all looks like when it's in the boat. She said that the front seats, side panels...and center console should be ready by next week

Well, I finally got all of my interior back. It took right at two weeks like she said. All I can say is WOW!!...I can't wait for the weather to get a little better here so I can install all of the stuff. It's going to look amazing!
I'll post up pics as soon as I get it all done.....and I'll PM some of you guys her info if you want to have your done.
Ever after the new colors, and building up the foam back to a nice firm seat instead of the soft squishy foam that was in there...it was still well under $600 when it was all said and done. I think it probably should have cost me three times that if I would have taken it to a full time boat upholstery shop.
I should have pics in a few days!
