Try Table Rock lake...Lots of places to put in and room to play. FYI there are some big boats that run the lake.

Now you are talking about my neck of the woods
What kind of boat do you have?? That kind of depends on what lake I would suggest.
Tablerock Lake it really nice, but can get pretty rough with wind and large amounts of boat traffic from cruisers and huge ski boats. It seems like in the last few years the boats have been getting bigger and bigger....35'+ cruisers are pretty common, and lots of 25'+ ski boats. It really beats the snot of me in my Vegas. Also, different areas of the lake are smoother than others. The Kimberling City area of the lake is horrible with wind and HUGE boats kicking up big wakes. There are a decent amount of water patrol out on the lake...but I've never really been hassled by them.....they are mainly out looking for drunks and underage kids drinking.
Stockton Lake is a really nice lake to go to also. It's a little farther North, but it's not nearly as crowded...and most of the time the water is really smooth. It's a great lake if you want to get out and run fast. Most of the boats out on the water are bassboats, and a few sailboats if the wind picks up. I rarely see any water patrol out on the water.
Here is a post I did a while back when I was testing some props out on Stockton....it's got a few pics of the lake.

Those are the two that I go to......depending on if I want to be around a busy "party" crowd with lots of people and lots of boats (Tablerock).....or if I want to get out on the water, relax, and not have to worry about a bunch of boat traffic, drunks, and water patrol (Stockton).
If you need any more info, feel free to email me or shoot me a PM.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Have a '91 Checkmate Starliner w/an '03 280. I'll probably opt for Stockton to ride comfortably with the family (and run it up a little). Not big on 2-3 ftr's from big boat traffic, as it sounds like is on Table Rock.
Any obstacles/hidden dangers to be aware of on Stockton? Boat ramps pretty nice?
Resort we're staying at is right near Landing Shopping and Taneycomo. Is boating OK or would you avoid it??
Thanks again for all the advice, really appreciate it.

There aren't really any surprises at Stockon as far as hidden underwater obstacles. I usually put in at the State Park Marina.....it's pretty nice with plenty of parking. It's really not that crowded...just bass boats and sailboats.
As far as Taaneycomo goes...it's more of a river than a lake. You really have to watch out, because it can go from 12 feet deep to 2 feet deep in a matter of just a few feet. Most boats out there are pontoon boats, and some bassboats. It's not really a place to get out and play around at...it's more just for fishing. I would never take my boat out on Taneycomo....too many changes to run aground, or hit stuff under the water. Now if I had a small 16' aluminum boat it would be great.
"Lake" Taneycomo is made from the water coming out of the bottom of Tablerock dam....so it's COLD!! Not really good for anything except catching trout! :D
You would probably be closer to Bull Shoals Lake....it's like Stockton from what I've heard. That would be much closer for you than driving up north to Stockton.
