300 promax

hi,ive just been offered a pair of merc 300 s but not the x.does anybody know there real power the story n the uk is that they only push out about 275hp and were not that good hence they made the 300x. any thoughts ?

I've had two pairs of 300 Promax (both on tunnel hulls) and I liked them. You are correct, though, they do NOT put out as much HP as the "X" motors. The "X" motors put out ~ 330 HP.

On a 30 foot Spectre, the "X" motors are about 5-7 MPH faster.

My 300 Promax's ran perfect. Idle all the way to full throttle.

Depends what you want.

thanks ,im gona run them on a 28ft v bottom race boat ,the x,s or xs would be nice but theres none about over here in good used condition and these 300 promaxes are low hours with new boxes. maybe there is some suttle mods that could be done for a little more hp:)

ive just spoken to a company that rigged three of the same boats and he reckons i need the extra power of the 300x,he says the non x is lucky to dyno at 270. they are to go on a uk phantom 28 for marathon racing
