I have a 13' boat I bought recently and am using a
55hp evenrude engine I had in the garage I want to go as fast as I can in this boat with this engine, and seems to be the best place to start.

Can any one help me rig this boat, I have been looking through this site and hear all talk of setback, props, nosecone height, porting and engine grinding. I know what you are all talking about but its all too much for me at once:confused: :confused: :confused: Can some one PLEASE tell me where to start, and what parts I need to get??? Engine is striped down now for rebuilding so now may be a good time for engine mods.

Thanx Alan...:)

Here's another pic of the boat before much needed work was started. But I think it has potential.

And what does the bottom look like? The rear of the bottom.

I haven't weighed the boat yet and dont know the builder, but I estimate the boat weighs 220kg's,
the engine weighs 95 kg's, and about 80 kg's for bats, fuel & controls.

1kg = 2.204 lbs

Total weight = 870 lbs
Boat only = 485 lbs

This is over estimating a little I think???

The aft end of the running surface is a standard V with rails (3 each side), no pad.(YET)!

This is the new reinforcement on the transom, it also has a new transom core- old one was prety nasty! and only 3/4 inch thick. New one is stronger, is constructed of glass ply laminate - 4 layers of 1/4 inch ply bonded together with mat and resin and vacum bagged.

AS for starters I would rig the boat with a jackplate, maybe 5" setback and about 4" lift. This is pretty much standard entery level plate. Then hang the motor. Install a ruler or mark the jackplate so you can measure the up and down travel. Install a water pressure, temp, and tach. Now run the boat, start with the motor all the way down. This will give us a baseline to start with. Get pictures of boat running. How much hull in the water? What rpm are you turning. Then we can go from there. Good luck and have fun.

Thanx, at least I have an idea where to start now,
will hope to have the boat ready for when the good weather comes back, maybe march.
Thanx again and in advance as no doubt I will have 100 more questions before!
Thanx;
Alan...:D :D :D

There is a great bunch of people that have all kinds of no-how. The boat I have started life as a non-fast hull. By the time I get done with it it may be respectable. Thanks in part to the group of people on S&F.

A good all around prop is a mercury chopper, 10 3/8x18. Will give you good speed and performance all around, excelleration, mid range, and top end.

I agree a merc mini chopper is a great prop choice.

The chopper might be hard to find in your area but im sure you could get someone to send it from over seas.

Thanks, I had planned on playing around with props but the main problem is getting them to try out!

Airide- Ive seen your 12 footer how does that perform, Its not realy like mine but it may give me an idea of what I can expect from mine. Have you done any engine mods, if so - what?
Also what weight is your boat?

By the way nice boat, who designed it?
Is it GRP or wood?

Thanks again guys

The boats are fiberglass, with wood floor and transome. My engine is an OMC midified 25, Airides is the one that is really modified, tell us about it Airide. Me Airide and our dads designed the boats.

Yes like BA26 was saying the boats are fiberglass with a wooden stringer in the back. The boats weigh around 160lbs (bare hull). We built them from the ground up.It took 12 boats to perfect the boat line.My engine is a modified 50 omc.Ive milled the heads, over bore, open exuast, sst 60 gearcase,3 blade cleaver, carbs have been modified, dry exuast, finger porting, and more stupid stuff i did for mor power. Thanks on the complement on our boats.I hope yours turns out the way you want it to.

There are a number of modifications that will improve the OMC 2cyl(40,45,48,50,55,60)hp . What year is your 55 what casting # is on the top of the block just aft of the flywheel by the engine lifting eye?

Specialize in OMC 2cyl and triple performance.

Hi MODIFIEDOUTBOARD thanks for the reply, The no's you request are: Mod; 55903s & Ser; B001597. The engine is a 1980, 55 evenrude.
I know this boat is diferent from what you guy's race over there but we dont get anything around here like those boats, we mainly have offshore boats.
I posted boat weight earlier in the post, (overestimated) more like 300 lbs.
Well if theres anything else you need just e-mail, thanks again for getting back, would love to get this boat to go fast.
Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.
Regards; Alan...
