Does anyone know anything about Hammond Boats? Specifically, the 21 ft. Challenger. I found one for sale at a good price, but don't know anything about them. Any info would be appreciated.

Bob Hammond was the founder of Glastron, after retirement he started Hammond boats. I don't know much about your boat, It looks like it was available in 1980-?. Pretty cool looking, sure looks longer than 21' in the pics. Go to this site:

I owned a 21ft. Hammond at one time. I think it was an 83, but its been a long time ago. It had a small block chevy, 260 with alpha drive, would run about 52. I think they were supposed to run 75 with big block. I remember the front seats were pedastal mounted and they would break from the floor pretty easily. I had to repair that. The main thing I remember is that was the roughest riding boat of that size I ever owned. If I remember correctly it had reverse chines that went all the way down to the water line in the back and it wouldn't get up off the water far enough to get off the chines and it would beat you to death. I hit a wave one day and busted one of the windshields out. They were pretty good looking boats though. Hope this helps, Hack.

Do you think the boat would have ridden better with more power? I am wondering if they just won't air out with the 260. I have a 19' Daytona, but am looking for a bigger boat cause the lake up here gets really rough on busy weekends. These boats look really sharp, but I don't want to buy something that is an absolute dog. My wife and I were just looking for something a little bigger, that seats at least 4 and handles the rough stuff. BTW, I am not getting rid of the Daytona.
