Springs here and I am making progress, can't wait to run her.
Just wanted to thank some of the people helping me along.

A friend of mine (Rich S.) made me a tie bar setup from some old wing plates I had laying around, came out mint. Tony (Tux) had the clevisis.

Ronnie did an excellent job cutting the mid. It looks like it came out of Mercury's factory.

I installed a Stainless Marine Heads up Indicator (looks nice, still working some bugs out)

Rich S. changed my Sportmaster to fat shaft and changed out drive shaft, added Taylor's billet seals-waterpump and Lakelands billet shaft seal

Today I picked up an Aluminum trailer from East Coast Trailers in Bayshore. Neil was a pleasure to deal with.

only question I have is this, why are tie bars ok on a skater, but if it was a superboat or any other brand there would be be 20 pages already about how their transoms are weak. we all know skater gas tanks are no good, I guess their transoms aren't much better .
how long before those angled shims crush right into that bulkhead? you need a plate to spread the load.

I am having a plate made up as we speak. The transom is very strong, but I use the boat on rough days (by far not a good flat water boat) and it's easier to do some preventive rigging now before I get problems.

Seems to me you have something against Skaters?

Hey CAPTCRUNCH
Any chance your name is Joe?

Port, His name is Joe (gelcoatjoe) and it is not worth it to get into a debate with him. He sends me emails whenever I put something on craigs list ebay etc. ripping me and telling me I have junk, it will never sell etc. I dont understand his motives or "game".

looks great frank one day i will have me either a 21' or 24' skater and the 15" mid ronnie is sweet he does some great work... trailer looks killer also but we need more pix...

I finally had a chance to try the boat with the 15" mid that Ronnie did for me. My son and I, with both fuel tanks almost full, were screaming at 95mph on GPS on the 6300 limiter right away (tach said 6600). I need a 30 definitely, if not bigger.
Boat rides perfect

Two weeks ago I dropped the boat off to Ronnie to fabricate some parts for me.
1. Trim bracket for the engine so the "Heads up" trim would work with the 15"
It looks and works perfect.
IMPO -I really, really, really like the Head up

2. He than made a steering component (hub) so I could use the telescopic
trim on the wheel. The part looks like it came out of the factory.

3. The last thing he did for me was mount my hatch. I originally thought he
was going to thru bolt through the hatch, but when I went to pick the
boat up I was surprised and happy to see that he actually modified the
hatch and recessed the brackets into the bottom and glassed them in. He
also did the same for hinges.

I have attached some pics of his work and I highly recommend him.

Thanks Frank glad you like it!! the under side of the hatch needs to be white tho. need to fix up that wiring too. You shouldn't see that stuff. Use it for a while and bring it back and I'll take care of it. Is the ride a little better than before???

PORT
05-16-2010, 08:36 PM
Hey Ron
Alot better. Whoever says that a 15" doesn't ride better, never tried it.
I don't know if it is because it is lighter or if it is because I can go higher, but the boat is faster and definitely revs higher.

See you on the water

Frank

Frank, what the specs on the hydraulic lift pistons? That would sure make the hatch user friendly(lol)!

I know this is a pretty old thread, but was it necesarry to remount the engine when you channged to 15 instead of 20 or could the Jackplate compensate for the the 5" difference?

I have a 21 skater with 300X + Land & Sea jackplate and I'm getting more and more into buying a 15" mid. =)

That trim indicator that is visible on top of the dash is an interesting feature. I wonder how it would look with tripples?
