I have a 1990 Randall craft 192 fs. It has a merc 3 liter 225
on it. I am running 65 with my engine high on the Jack plate. Not high
enough to blow out. With the engine lower on the plate I can
do around 68-69. I am still breaking in the engine so I didn't
hold it wide open for long. A friend of mine used to do pad
mods to bass boats. I have a 13.5 inch wide semi v pad on the
boat now. He says I will do better with a flat pad and make
it 24 inches long and still 13.5 inches wide. The boat gets a
little wild at 68 by my self. Not to bad with two people. The
guys says that a flat pad instead of a semi v will be more
stable at higher speeds and the pad being a little taller will
make it faster. It makes sense to me but someone out there
with pad mod expirence might differ. Any comments on this
will be greatly appreciated. I know that there are certian speeds
that a hull Is designed to run but could doing these pad mods
help
Thanks

If its a Randall Craft bass boat your talking about it does have a flat pad. I suspect that getting a little wild your are talking about is the boat chine walking.I had a 88 190 Randall craft and they are fast boats. I had a XR-4 on mine and it would run well over 70. It only wieghs 1000 pounds. Thats light for a 19 foot bass boat.

I wouldn't mind a little chine walking but this starts to get bad
to where the back corners of the boat would start to go under
water if I don't get off the throttle. A couple of people have
tried to drive out of it but can't. We are suppose to start on
the pad today so any input would be helpful. The boat was
completly rebuilt years ago becuase of termites. Since then
it won't get up on the pad at high speeds. My " buddy" did
a little grinding on the boat so I am thinking that some of
the pad was grinded down. I can get it up on the pax at 30 to 40 mph
but anything over that it won't sit up. Before it was taken apart
you would have to look over the bow of the boat when it was
up and running now it barely gets any bow lift

I dont know how to put a pic on here and the only pics I
have on my phone is of the whole bottom of the boat but I
will try to get one on here If you send me your e mail I can
send you a picture of what ever you want. Just tell me what
shot of the boat you want. The boat is upside down right now
so it will be easy to take a picture

My Randall Craft would chine walk bad if you didnt get a handle on it. Sounds like your are descibing a chine walk that was never corrected to me. If you cant drive a boat that chine walks it will get bad. I mean Bad!. What kind of boats are you exoerienced in driving? What kind of boats do your buddys drive. A regular bass boat driver cannot drive a boat that chine walks. Standard cookie cutter bass boats dont chine walk. There to heavy. The steering has to be tight with NO Play. Is the steering tight with no Play? A padded performance boat should not run bow high.

I used to drive this boat before it was rebuilt
and it was fine with single cable steering
now it has teleflex hydralic steering that was
bled with a power purge twice. There is no slack
in the steering. The guy who is going to do
the pad mods worked on nitros and tritons and
orther speed hulls. I will put up pictures of the boat
upside down.
