If I were rebuilding one and wanted what I consider the best then it would be Vertex or Pro Marine...

No one makes a factory top pinned piston in CAST.. I use Mercury OEM over sized pistons in my Pro0 Max motors that have need of over sized bores ( Marles seems to prefer them over the other brands to top pin, DUNNO why? We just had this conversation several months ago and he Top pinned 4 sets of .015" over OEM Mercury for my customers ) I have a 200 now thats already .015" over thats got hot and dial boed all over the place and needs a .030" over that Mercury don't make in a 2.5 SOOO I am piston shopping to.. I have but the two choices mentioned, Vertex and or Pro . I will address this issue with John tonight and buy what he has has had the best history and best results with...

Can you use forged pistons like Wizards for this application if tolerances are right?

SURE !

PS: Just got off the phone .. Marles suggests PRO's if the OEM wasn't available ( If you are going back cast , if your going forged Wizard is IMO the best choice , with proper .008" clearance STD, .0085" + .024" and .009"+ .044" , always worked for me!! )

My engine guy is getting the pro marines and I don't think they come top pinned. He was talking about sending them out to have it done. The coating help a lot! I got layed off from a company that coats the tops and the bottoms. Wish I could get it done ther, it would be free!

Iv heard that wiseco pistons shrink after a few time of heating and cooling? Now wear, but just shrink. I know the dirtbike stuff does and I would think that the outboard pistons would do the same? Not sure really. I was looking in the wiseco book at work a month or so ago and they didn't have the ones for the 225. Do you have to get the 200s or something. Cause I can get wisecos for distributor pricing. That would save me a few I'm sure.. Hope Jay chimes in again.

They're not top-pinned. Send them to John Marles for top pinning.

Sammy,

What are you going to do with that powerhead? I mean what is you're intended use?

it on the boat in my avatar 21 talon flats fish and fly at 75 mph ,i dont mined paying for forged pistons if its makes it more durable to running wot to 7000 rpm i dont always run that fast but when i want i dont want to worry about it i dont think that is asking to much from a 225 pro max hanging with these local florida s&f members im the slow boat do you see whos boat is next to mine ya fastcat 300= 110 mph

Forged ARE more durable IF clearances are addressed as well as proper warm up times and proper oils are used.. Wizards are IMO the best forged pistons going I'e sold OVER $300K worth of them and that amount is still rising....
