Probably just ECU's

The truth is no one really knows. I called mercury and the tech couldn't even give me a straight answer. I started a few threads like this one and no clear cut answer.

My best guess is the ECU and little bit of port work. From all the info I have gathered. I was thinkin hey, I'll just swap computers, and it doesn't seem to be that easy.

Eric Simon might be the only person who really knows, and I don't think he's telling...lol

Heads and ECU's are the only difference.

Heads and ECU's are the only difference.

Mercury list the same part numbers for the 225 and 250 3 liter heads. What makes them diff. I want to know just incase I come across a set of 225 heads and if they arent the same as 250 heads I dont want to waste my time cutting them to 300 specs. Thanks Mike

4 butterfly intake, ecu (air, fuel, timing)

2000 and 2001 225 and 250 are the same intake. The heads on a 225 are C2's. The heads on a 250 are C11's .

eric's the best . he turned my fishing motor "225efi" into a monster. i just put a ? for the horsepower because all i know is that im haulin ass know. about 15mph more from heads and ecus. remember this is a fishing motor not a race. he's very professional and knows his stuff.

And there you have it!

Max timing advance is the difference in the ignition ecu. The 250 gets a couple degrees more.

For fuel I don't know if the 250 goes full fat on the top end like the 225 does when near the rev limit.

my 01 225 efi has c11 heads, and as far as i can tell, its never been apart. it also has the 4 hole intake. when i first rigged it i ran it w/ the 225 computers, then switched it to the 250 computers, the biggest thing i noticed was the acceleration increased drastically, but no gain in top end(but in all fairness it was running 6100 rpm w/ both), i've heard that the factory computers start dumping fuel at 58-5900 and limit at 6200

At Fuller Marine we dynoed my stock 250efi and found that it made the most HP (after doing all combos possible with 300 and 250 fuel and ign) with a 300 ign and 250 fuel. I believe it was 285hp. I got the 300 ign from Simon but it was stock.
