Good day to ya fellas , I'm in need of some factual information or a poke in the right direction. I have a good buddy with a 23.5 Rinker and a 330hp 454. Being that I do automotive performance work he came to me last year to see if he could get the boat to run any cleaner. I installed a complete MSD ignition and rebuilt the carb along with the usual tune up goodies. The boat jumped from 48 mph to 54 mph and he was really happy.

Now with spring coming he is looking to do a little more work . I have found another carbed 370 hp 454 with only 60 hrs on it and from my understanding this one has 4 bolt mains and a steel crank with forged parts where the 330 does not. If this is in fact true i would rather him go that route because it may end up with a S480 turbo on it down the road. For now I would just do a cam , intake and carb swap with a little port work and keep the rpm below 5500. Any insight would be greatly appreciated gents as this other motor can be picked up reasonable and I would feel alot better about the bottom end.
Thanks.

BTW. I did search but i could not find a solid answer.

The 370 should be a 4 bolt main motor with steel crank if it is all stock. Check and see if it is stamped "HI PERF" usually behind the flywheel. If so it is a 4 bolt block. The 330(300 propshaft HP) will be cast crank and 2 bolt mains.

I just wasn't 100 percent sure because the motor is sitting on a stand pushed into a corner and a real bastard to get to.
Thanks for the response. Cool site you have here

I have been a member of theturboforums for quite a while and the boat section there is just starting to grow so there isn't a whole lot of tech yet.
