I am thinking about getting another Allison. There are several posted on here that would fit my bill but I need a bit of education. I currently have an xb2002 that I've had for a while now. Several years back I had an 01 drag that I now regret selling. Thought I needed an STV, which I bought and subsequently sold, but I spose I am a v bottom guy at heart. What is the difference tween an 01 drag and a river racer other than the obvious extra seat? Any handling charachteristics? Thanks

Weight. The river racer's are usually in the high 5's in weight. Some are over 600. Handling would be about the same besides the drag's ability to air out and clean up faster. Keep in mind that the XR2001 was built in all kinds of different variants so there's not always a clear cut difference. Some have drag bottoms and river racer tops and some have river racer bottoms and drag tops.

Erik is right on. Here is a link to the xr2001 order form. It's got the exact differences listed.

http://www.reynoldsracingmarine.com/allisonpage2.htm

It seems like the newer xr2001rr hull has been lighter than the older ones possibly. This is based on a 2004 model I know about.

Anyway, they are the exact same hull/pad design, shape, ect.... The drag is laid up thinner/lighter. I have a 2009 xr2001rr and if you were to look at it, you couldn't tell the difference. However, it came with two seats, you can step on the top cap getting in and out, and the serial number documents it as a RR model.

The drag is nice if you are short track drag racing or trying to make a lighter weight class, such as pro gas, pro fuel, outlaw, unlimited. There have been many xr2001rr hulls winning drag races in their perspective classes, such as 1400 modified, prostock, ect....

So, I just see it as a weight only issue. If you're not concerned with say 100 lbs or so, then it really doesn't matter for the most part. I know of a drag that has held up to a lot of river riding, but if you were going to occasionally get into some rougher water, you may want to think about the RR model a little more.

Seems like I remember you putting a big tank in a xr a while back and maybe saying you ride a lot. The RR may, in fact, be the way to go for you.

Sent you a pm.

Good Luck. Fun boats for sure!

I ain't scared to post a pic being behind!!!!!!!!! LOL Here's my buddy Randy getting the best of me! I didn't want to make him mad and show the other pic, cause I could've sworn I ended up a couple boats ahead by the end! :D

Thanks for the info guys. I got your pm and that is a beautiful boat. My last drag was Glen Reynolds old hull and I wish I hadn't sold it. Most fun thing to drive ever. Anyway, I have a fair 260 on short mid and a couple xr6 cases so I thought I would build another. I like the idea of a bit more weight as the last one was a bitch to get in and out of. Very, very thin cap. There are a couple posted on here that look good and I am trying to decided tween maybe 1 of them or maybe another drag as there are a couple of them available also. Appreciate the info. It's exactly what I needed to know.

RR is what I'd go for unless you're racing. Like you said, for a beach racer, it's just easier to get in and out of.
