guys, this is my first post, I have a 14' glastron with a 78 mariner l6, I was wondering about what ball park type prop I should be using? Last year on first time out I got 5200 with me 220lb and a friend 380lb, the speedo was set too far to the outside of the boat to read. At one time I cut to the right and the speedo jumped over 50mph and was about 3/4 throttle , i was using a mercury prop 13x19p, the motor needed to have new ign wires, a fine tune and as I found out the three carbs had vacumn lines coming from the carb bowls that would lean the carbs at wot and pluged them. I was thinking on a 14x23p for start. What do you think? Also no jack plate but does have power tilt, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Buz

I would start with a 22 small ear chopper. I think you have 2.33 gears

The 115 should be 2:1. I know the 80/85 had the 2.33:1 lowers but every 115 i've had, had the 2:1's.

How deep is the motor is there any set back. If its mounted on the transom deep a chopper will not work as good as a raker style through hub. Just an opion based on my 16 rallysport. I ran a 22 raker deep and got the best performance than with jackplate and raising the motor an 137/8x23 srx. Rick

Thanks guys, I just checked the gear ratio and it is just about 1 3/4 to one, crank to prop shaft. I think your opinion is going to be close. Of course if I get rid of that 380lb guy would help a lot ha ha. Thanks Buz

I would go one step at a time and go with a 21p. The Merc inlines didn't like to be overpropped, liked to detonate and would kersplode on you to prove it. I would shoot for 5800 with just you in it. Thats assuming theres not a big diff between the Merc And the Mariner...
Edit: Misread the post....380 lb. guy? Might pull a 23p after all.....put yer buddy in a pontoon boat and giver a try....
