I have an XR2 mercury outboard. When the boat jumps out of the water, you back off the throttle. When you land and get back on the throttle it tends to die out, almost like the engine cuts out, but it gets going without having to be restarted. Engine runs fine all other times.
One idea is that the fuel pump keeps pushing in fuel when the boat is in the air and back up/floods the carbs so when you get back in it you get the bog down.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - 1 month till race season starts!!

Fuel in the carb bowls is still airborn. I suspect you gonna need carbs with slosh tubes on them for that kind of treatment.

Is it a race xr2 or a fishin motor xr2?

Is the mercury tilt switch still on it? The one that kills the engine if it tilts up too far when running or during a sudden impact. If it is, disconnect it from ground and tape up the lead and try it again.

transomstand - correct it was brought to the Island from the UK.
sschefer - I have a safety cable securing the motor. This restricts how high the motor can trim, so that shouldn't be the issue.
Thanks all for the ideas.

He's refering to the tilt kill,Mercury switch on the kill circut little black switch by the power packs if its there you need to disconnect it.Then set carbs like T-rex said the fuel is flooding over when boat takes off causing engine to boag out of the hole
