Nasty stuff, that rust. Saltwater and a tropical environment have conspired to turn my steering arm to scale. After searching unsuccessfully for a stainless steel replacement, I ordered another carbon steel part a couple of days ago.

Has anyone come up with a way to prevent rust on this vital human/motor connection?

Thick cote of the heavy duty corrosion-x. Reapply often. Its a mess but better than rust. My motor is an 2004 and no rust on the steer arm...

I agree with XStream, my 1998 Pro Max goes in saltwater about 50% of its use and has absolutely no rust. I do a fresh water rinse down and then use a leaf blower to dry the mota followed by a dusting of (green can) Corrision-X. Its WD 40 on steriods

Thanx to both Xtream and Buzzin'. No local source for CorrosionX, but the Fluid Film site lists three retailers here in town. Think I'll pick some up today.

On another unrelated topic (I'm probably just stupid...) How did you guys set up your 'signatures'. I've looked all over and can't find how.

Worldsailer Click on the user cp and look on the left side of screen it will have the options listed. Is Honolulu home ? Or just another port for a time...
