Alright got a tdc gauge, got a fly wheel cover. Now how do you know where to set the timing? The flywheel has no marks on it to identify with a timing light. Its a stock 260 lightweight 16 amp flywheel. My 200 had little white marks on the flywheel for the timing light to hit so, you could set the timing. This one dont have that. Just an adjustable pointer on the flywheel cover. But, without a reference point on the flywheel to adjust to. Did I make this sound confusing?
Thanks

As per the manual , install dial indicator in # 1 cyl plug hole , rotate clockwise up to TDC when the indicator needle stops moving and zero it and tighten screw to hold the dial . Go counterclockwise a bit then clockwise back up to TDC to make sure you are at TDC . Make a pointer and stake the flywheel T or Zero .Now back up counterclockwise more than .150 " and return clockwise to .150 " . This represents 25 deg of advance . Stake the flywheel at the pointer you have already made . Some people do this for all 6 cylinders and then compare it with a timing light .

Achieve true TDC on #1 cylinder turning flywheel CLOCKWISE after that set bezel slide to zero after this is established use your sliding timing adjuster on you plastic flywheel cover and now with some white paint make a mark directly across from that line so they perfectly line up. NEXT rotate flywheel COUNTERCLOCKWISE .150" OR 1 and 1/2 rounds of the needle on the bezel it will be on .050" thats equals 25* then go to the front and make another white line directly across from your static pointer on the plastic cover. Next remove the plugs and ground all the plugs against the block with duct tape or use a multi spark plug gap tester if you have one. Have some one sit in the boat and with a timing light attached to #1 and the helper with the throttle all the way down turn the motor over and over aligning the 25* mark with the static pointer if adjustment need to be made loosen the 7/16" nut at the top of the timer arm and adjust the screw that moved the rubber bumper against the block boss, moving the timer base arm to the real advances to the front retards it..

Make a pointer like the one pictured. I use a piece of copper wire bent and bolted to the block.

I use a piece of coat hanger to make my pointer with. I also use liquid paper to make my timing marks with. Works great, and will rub off easily if desired.
