I have a pair of 300XS on my 28 Skater. The standard factory warranty will be out soon, I am on the fence about spending 3k for one more year or 6k for two. This would be for a mercury warranty not an aftermarket warranty.I will have to say I have used my warranty, the fist 26 hrs a powerhead let go probably error in assembly ,(built on Mon or Fri:eek:) Then I blew a lower after 70 hrs, hopefully running 4 blades will help with this.
Who else here is running 300xs ? Have you used your warranty? Is a factory warranty from mercury the same as the inital warranty? Any insight would be appreciated.

If the motors had been flawless since day one..then it would be pretty easy to say no to the warranty. Since there is a record of huge money issues, i would way do yourself a favor if you have the money to do so and buy the warranty.
i would contact mercury and talk talk with the ppl who take care of the extended warranty and see how it works and whats its limitations are.
Then it might be worth a try to talk to a tech and merc racing for an opinion reffering to the issues you have already had with these engines and see what type of answer he gives

It's a big chunk of money, but what would it cost if one of those powerheads lets go in a year? Personally I think a DI motor without warranty is just a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.....

I'm in the exact same boat (no pun intended) I've had a compressor go bad and a lower unit replaced. I just today received a offer to buy the extended from Mercury I'm thinking I'll sell my motors and put new ones on for just a few grand more.

Thank you Clayton! Do you know anyone with any experience making a claim?

My Erude is now under FPC coverage....when I toasted the powerhead at River Ranch, I dropped it off on Monday. They tore the motor down Tuesday, adjuster came out Wed, new powerhead shipped Thursday, and Wed of the next week I had it back....No real complaints with FPC, although read the fine print. They don't cover seals and stuff like that. So say you had a propshaft or driveshaft seal leaking on the gearcase, they would not cover it. They will cover the case if it grenades though....

i would not hesitate to go with fpc. we do alot of claims with them yearly and they pay without any issues.. make sure you ready the non covered items. there is always fine print in the contracts..

Thanks for the advice, I had been leaning towards the warranty. If I sold the motors what does a pair of less than a 100hr 300xs go for??

I wouldn't hesitate to get them. Major problems are few and far between. The power and versatility of these engines are unmatched. If you do get them, get a vessel view. Great addition. Tells you just about everything you need to know.

Stan. how do you handle replacing a bad 300xs crank for additional 500? the 3.2 crank is pricey and I searched for a way to repair. or get a used one for a few months before I bought the new one.

FYI.....
This company does not have a plan available for any direct injected Engines

I paid the 3k for the extra 2 years offered by Mercury on my XS last year before the factory warranty ran out. Since then they replaced the sporty lu, one injector, and 2 air compressors (one had a issue from factory and didn't last 2 hrs) my cost was the $50 deductible twice. Might be a hard pill to swallow but it doesn't take long at all to spend 3k in repairs on one.
