I thought I had made my mind up to go with Vertex but came to the stark realization that I really didn't know why.
I'm building a mildly ported 94 2.0L 150. I'm using a matched set of top guided 41 rods and I'm boring it .030 over. I'd like to keep the cost down but not if it creates a risk. Rods and pistons will be getting balanced.
Any recommedations and maybe a swag at cost?
Thanks
Steve

Vertex makes an excellent piston that should work very well in any intended rpm's of a mild to moderately ported engine...

A pro piston will handle anythang U kan deel wit dat mota...max rpm wit out fingerports would be around 7200 rpm, an datz on a light bote....
I use pro's(or tha pro-v) in all my 2liters cept tha F-1...No problems...

Thanks Ted and T-Rex, I didn't include a boat type because I'm not really sure what it's going on.
Looking at Pro Marine's pricing I really don't see much of a cost difference between the pro, prov and vertex pistons. Other than the coating is there really anything different or is it just a marketing thing.

I bought 2 sets of Pro v's last month because they were out of 2.5 Vertex.015 over pistons a Promarine. im not sure i dont like them better then Vertex (as far as installing them) i aint real wild about Vertex's wrist pin hole machining or the lack of it or that gorilla circlip:cool:

For the little difference in price I would go with the coated pro-v piston I use them on all my overhauls even the stock motor. In a 2.0 I would run them like rex sayes you won't have any trouble If I was going to spend the money for vertec I would look for a 2.4 or 2.5 block and put pro in it nufthing wroung with 2.0 But with that price tag with new pistons go for the bigger from the get go

The Vertex's were 4.00 cheaper apiece then the Pro V  even though the catalog says they were the same price

I wouldn't lose any sleep from knowing that My 2.0 liter had either piston... If the tune and build is right You will be able to stand on that engine all day and feel fine about it...

i agree 100% the pro piston is all that's needed in it

Thanks all. Like I said before the pricing is throwing me off. I'm so used to spending more money for a better product that it's confusing to see all these pistons priced so closely and then trying to figure out which one I need.
So just out of curiosity, are you all paying the prices that Promarine has on their webistes. I'm showing 107.95 for the 4030P/S kits ea. I've got 3 of each on my wish list and will pull the trigger Friday. I don't consider that to be a bad price for a top quality piston.

You may want to look at the Sierra piston. They are made by PERSAN and are 100% compatible with Mercury stuff, so if you need a C clip you can use the Merc, same with the rings, wrist pin etc. Good quality no a cheap Asian import, they are actually made in Argentina by a OEM supplier.
Just stay away from Good Luck Marine.

Thanks, Jeff. I have a set of those in my 135 fishin motor and so far they're working out great.

Yeah, the pro pistons are made in Argentina also, and I think are a quality part. The vertexs I put in my 2.4 were made in Italy. I think any of them are good for a mild build.

I wonder if the quake is going to effect production. I may be hard to get the Persan's in the comming weeks.

Chile and Argentina are like states in the U.S. They are nextdoor neighbors and quakes know no boundries. The owner of the company I work for has a Polo ranch in Argentina and is there right now cleaning up.
But, good to hear there's a years supply on hand.:)
