My 2.5 Merc steel motor needs some cylinder love... The current factory installed sleeves will need a solid .015" to clean'em up... Would I be better off financially to re-sleeve the block so I can re-use My lightened and balance drag pistons, the new sleeves would need to be match ported... Or would I do better to bore the existing ones and be forced to buy new pistons, or ditch the whole project and buy a ready to roll nicasil block & front 1/2... Thanks...

To sleeve it would cost $150-$200 a sleeve, plus you have to report it back to the way it was. And if you go .015 over thats $30-$40 a bore plus cost of new pistons. If you could get a nic, at the same price, all you would have to do is change out the rings. Just my 2 cents worth.

Kevin ,

Several ways to skin your cat. You "CAN" bore all 6 and buy a new set of Wizard .024" over forged racing pistons with chrome rings OR if you re sleeve its gonna cost you $225.00 a hole from my guy back to standard + .003" for the forged pistons clearance and then you'd have to match the ports in the new sleeve to the block..

# 1 option = $1790.00 ( Original sleeves just bored to new meat with proper clearance for forged to steel, NEW .024" over pistons and rings included )
# 2 option = $1700.00 ( use your used pistons , new std sleeve clearanced to .008" piston to cylinder for forged to steel and you have to buy new rings )

Pretty close to the same...

I kinda feel like Gen. Custer did when He saw all the Indians... Well, that's the kind of numbers that I need to pick a direction to go in... Thanks for the advice, it's a big help...

If you go with new pistons you should be able to recoup some of your money by selling your current pistons.

If you decide to go with a nic block/front half your current block/front are worth something.

No matter which option you take I'm still gonna outrun you:D

I mean seriously, have You seen how shiny My boat is:confused:..? I've played on marry-go-rounds that spin more rpm's than your motor, I got dizzy a little bit but not much...
