i know someone who wants to trade his 260 for my 225 pm. he wants to downgrade. yes i said downgrade. he does alot of fishing and wants a motor that doesn't need as much mantainence as a 260. my question is, how much more am i going to get out of this motor than what i have now. my promax is on a 2002 xb and has no limiter, a modified tuner and freed exhaust. i can spin a 28 trophy 7k+. if i am going to only gain about 2 or 3 mph than i will stick with what i have. but if it's better maybe we can deal. any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

My '96 260 has a good amount of hours on it and only pulls about 125 lbs of compression and still turns a 28 Hoss about 7400 on my Grand Sport. That's with 3/4 tank of fuel, a loaded cooler, and plenty of other crap in the boat.

A nice 260 on your 2002 should definitely push it to 100.

What hull are you running this on ? A heavy hull your better off with the Pro Max.

It depends on your boat, it can’t be a heavy boat, but the difference should be like the difference between a VW and Porsche

What kind of hours are on the two and what year are they?? If they were both about the same year and hours I would go with that 260.. I'm sure you are already at 100 with that 225 on a Allison and a 260 should push it to probably 110 mph.. But I am just estimateing those speed by what I read over at the ALlison website and I see several people claim 101 with a 200 Hp.. ALso a concideration is what Midsection is on the two.. are they both 20" does one have offshore or drag style mid? And how about an aluminum flywheel? THink about parts value or resale value also..

I didn't notice you had a 2002, get rid of that Promax as soon as you can.

my dad had a 260 on a 2002 and it turned a 27 srx at 7600 for a speed around 105ish. i would think there would be a big difference in acceleration. i would say trade.

it would be less reliable then a stock one. Why is he going to trade? Do a compression test before you buy it, also, make sure you rig your fuel system properly when you switch. That is the key to detonation.

My modified 260 turns 8k with a worked 26 trophy, 7700 with a 28 hoss triton. The 260 is a lot more motor. You might also consider a leakdown test. Older soft ring motors didn't last as long. Bob
