Going down in 2 weeks to check out the area. Parents are getting ready to move so i was thinking about moving down also (obviously so i never have to winterize my boat again). Any cool spots on the water to check out over there?? Or is there a place you can go to see some boats running around?? Or most importantly a place to drink beers on the water??

Thanks for any info guys

Great area. We're 1/2 hr south. We have the biggest, most popular Tiki Bar in the area. hirams.com But are tons of others as well.
One of our favorite day trips is to take the rag top out on the barrier islands by us and head north to Port Canaveral. The port has several on water tiki bars and Sunday afternoons all the cruise ships line up and head out 50' from the bars.
The river (Intracoastal) through there has tons of uninhabited islands to play on. Cool area.
Let me know if I can help.
Gary

Yeah, Captain Hiram's! Got stuck there on a 40' Post sportfisher for three days in bad weather a couple of years ago. Stumbled back and forth from the boat to the bar :D

I went to college in Melboring as we called it then, about 23 years ago...the places we went then are probably long gone. Actually, did like the area tho. Like Instigator says, tons of islands to hang out on south of Melbourne. Our fraternity had a weekend long Island Party every year :cool:

many good boat ramps, and good truck and trailer parking. free.
get some charts since intercoastal has some shallow areas.
and the dam mantee zones. many nice homes on the canals and the waterways.
prices are really down. been here since 84 and worked for the black motor company that shipped my job to china.
since my 35 foot fall.... boating is out but feel free to call.

Also plenty of freshwater boating in the area....Alligator Chain 30 minutes west, Lake Kissimmee about an hour away....River Ranch maybe 1.5hrs away...

I love putting the boat in at Melbourne, and running up to the Port for dinner...or running a bit south and doing some flats fishing....

It's still called Melboring:p but that's how we like it. Much slower pace than the island but you have lakes, ocean and the river to meet all of your boating needs. Like others said Hiram's down south in Sebastian is the spot and port Canaveral to the north. In Melbourne the best spot IMO is Bone fish Willy's on the river, drinks and great food.If you need great NY/Italian food pizza check out Italy Italy on wickham rd.

I like the Melbourne/Sebastion area. Sebastion is a great place to surf or jump waves on a PWC. The St Johns River is fun if there is enough water and has plenty of alligators.

Indian River is a lot of fun, but watch out for the sandbars. We will somtimes rent an oceanfront beach house somewhere around American Beach [between Melbourne Beach and Sebastian].

Back in the mid 80's, the Sebastian Beach Inn was cool place to go, I think the specialty drink was Bahama Mamas...is that place still around?

Was severely damaged in a past Hurricane but came back but on a shoe string budget. $4. beers help pay (according to the owner) for great bands and a million dollar view right on the beach of the Atlantic. Cpt Hirams is where the tourists/boats go and this more locals and hard cores. Very rustic, authentic Fla Cracker feel to it.
Another place another 5 mls or so north on A1A is Lou's Blues. 2 story killer place w/great live bands. Cheap beer and no cover.

On of our favorite day trips is that strip of A1A in the rag top w/refreshment sops along the way. Either end up at Grills at the port to watch the cruise ships head out or start there and work back. We ended up at Lou's on the return trip one weekend and from their 2nd floor balcony you could see 4 cruises ships out on the horizon following each other to sea. Would have to be at least 10 mls away. Pretty cool.

Also to the locals, the "Grills" at the port is building a new place in Melbourne on the river. NW corner of US 1 and the Pinetta Causeway. On the water with real docks. Should be nice and a great geographic location.

Cool!

When we were stuck at Hiram's - I was helping transport a 40' Post - the owner and his good friend were also aboard...both in the upper 60s. I was 50 at the time -

We got bored of going to Hiram's to eat all the time, so one morning we walked south and came across Earl's....figured we'd go in and get a bite. We were the only ones in there at first...ordered egg sandwiches and Bloody Mary's...then the regular clientele starts wandering in and I realize I'm in a biker bar and the three of us sitting there sipping Bloodys just doesn't look right!

Dang, did you find some sort of reverse time machine or are you just getting old enough now that you have trouble remembering your age ? Or from reading this thread perhaps you just spent a little too much time at the local watering holes :p

funny :p You need to be about another 300 mls south for that ;)
Earls rocks. It's the local scooter trash wanna be bar. On Sundays they'll have 300 32 HP, 1500cc V-twins line up. Some gorgeous $50K, single seat, hard tail, 'Pro Street" tailer queen scoots with 75 mls on the odometer.
Can't believe I haven't had my ass beat there yet  Used to take great pride in parking my $2K e-bay 1000cc Hurricane in the middle of them.
They do have the best blues bands around though. And free.

Talking about moving the 40' Post,...........was telling some one else that the local Crackers take their fish botes serious down here. We were driving south on US 1 along the I.C. one weekend when I noticed a big sport fish (60'+) going south. Was probably a mile away from us but appeared to be keeping up with our 45 - 50 MPH speeds on land  Knowing he's too far away to accuratley judge/compare speed I started keeping my speed at a steady 50 MPH every where I could and then would check his location every few mls.
30 mls later he was at the same location! Called my brother back in Ohio who owned a 40' Egg to describe what I was seeing  He could not believe it.
Course the wife thought I was loon but man, do the math for a minute on that one.......
Was in a shop one day where they were building a wood/glass composite 72' (I think) w/twin V-16 1600 HP diesels! It had 4" diameter prop shafts and 36" X 36" wheels!

Doesnt one of the golfers have one with a Turbine, and some big diesels?

Yep,
Cool area, we have lived here since 1990, and wouldn't live anywhere else..... It's pretty laid back, but there are alot of things to do, by boat and by car....

The Owner of Ring Power has some hot fishing boats also. Some have custom Cat engines, that could have been his, since it was that fast.
