I flew to Houson Tx last weekend for an event the Coon Asses put on.
I shipped my best prop, vest and my helmet so I could race a couple of friends boats but decided to drink beer and take pictures instead.
I've been a bunch of different places to play with boats but never seen anything like this before. Ever!
Think mix of River Ranch and Jasper.
91 boats that started racing at 11:00 Saturday morning and didn't stop until 4:00! No class changes, no intermissions no breaks, just non stop racing!
We figured we saw over 300 passes!
The guys from ByUBoyz.com put it on and did an amazing job.
660' course, starting barge w/a freon horn for the starters signal, mile long, gorgeous sand beach for boats and spectatin.
No weight limits or modification/combination limits of any kind!
The hospitality was amazing too. I flew in, stayed at a friends house, drove other peoples boats that I'd never met before, had 5 or 6 offered to me to race! Guess they do things different in Texas and Louisianna
The southerenrs like their Allisons too! Bet there had to be at least 30 of them there!
Was also maybe a dozen wicked fast jet boats there playing too. From mild to wild. A Place Craft nitrous assisted jet ended up being the baddest of the bad. Final pass of the day was him against the fastest Alli there (Garrell Chiasson's) and I am told is the 2nd fastest 1/8 mile O/B in the country! Unfortunately he didn't bring anough for the jet and lost by 3 or more boats.
That jet was bad azz and had probably 15 MPH on the Alli at the finiish line!
I'm already planning next yr and will be taking a boat.

Some other interesting items were:

2 time Jasper Lake Racer Champion Chuck Martini's Triad Vee bottom w/a 225 E-Tech on a shorty mid.

Ben from Mississippi's $1200 JohnRude on his River Rocket. Home brewed, cast pistons, stock ignition, on carburetors, on a shorty mid.
Oh yeah, he was turning it 9200. He was struggling with carburation/bogging issues but was still one of the fastest boats there in that league.

A 21' Liberator (sorry I forgot your name) w/twin 200 Mercs that raced anything/everything that pull up to him :D

My friend and host Rick's new 18' Action w/a box ass stock 200 Pro Max that ran and launched like a 300lb drag boat! Was first time Rick had raced and ended up being the topic of many discussions over beers.

Watching my friend DaBull (can drive anything!) run T-Rexs 250lb!! Laser w/a fire breathing 2.5 w/W.T. 3 horn Mad EFI and 2:1 gears @ 11K and scare the shist out of the high zoot boats he pared up with:eek:

Talking to Tim and looking at his gorgeous Talon that he built!

Watching my boys DaBull and Rocket Mike coach Bulls nineteen yr old son Blane in his first drag race in a fast boat. The kid drove the bajesus out of Mikes River Rocket w/a 260 w/230lbs of compression 110 fuel and my Rich Junker worked 20" Yami. The kid would make a pass then Dad would call him on his cell and give him instructions! ;) The young man was a joy to be around and get to know.

Here's a link to an album of my pix's from the weekend.

It was good to see you again and I’m glad you had a good time. as you already knew we try to do things right around here

The Allison you were talking about is Garrell Chiasson's Pro Gas @ Outlaw boat and yes it's one of the quickest in the country, but our little 2.5's can only do so much against a well set up 1500+ hp jet. He’s a local from the river and it’s bad to the bone.

Here is a link to some pics I took, sorry they are not the best, but I started drinking way before I got the camera out and set-up. Greg won’t be impressed.

That Yamaha powered Vegas was amazing to watch also!

that's about right, I heard about 1200hp on motor plus the spray. somebody told me his bottle was good for only a couple of passes. it must be pretty true cuz there was a bunch of empty's in the sand next to the boat. it was plan sick!

It was nice to meet you also and myself, big tis, and oran held it down for the 200 prostock boats. My boat was the red and black allison xr2001 and the red and black dr-20 both had or prostock motors. Orans boat ran high 80s in 660 and mine ran a touch over 90 but the triad was quicker. They ran 2:1 and I ran 1:87. They werent the fastest out there but not bad aginst a bunch of high compression light weight drag motors. What a great time. Cant wait to do it agine I burnt over 10 gallons of fuel racing 660 feet at a time. Man it was fun

Nice to meet you Gary, wish we could have stayed a bull **** a little longer. The set up on Garrell's boat wasn't what he runs in outlaw. he let us use the boat but the rest of the good stuff stayed with him because he has everything for sale and didn't want to hurt nothing. i really don't think anyone had enough for the jet boat. but it wouldn't have look so bad with the set up he had in gulfport. later Larry D

at 660' a time :p:D:eek::thumbsup:

Wished I'd had more time to spend w/you Alli wizards. Keep thinking Vee bottom for the next mule for my project motor and am liking the Allisons more and more.
Never seen so many in one place.

Was fun watching the guy drive the hell out of that Viper too :reddevil: The thing was fast!

Before I got there, racing was at the top of the list. Once I was actually there though and I saw what was getting ready to happen it was an easy decision to play spectator instead of racer.
I told Bobby while testing in your boat that I consider myself fearless but not sure I wanted a pc of that thing :reddevil: Maybe next time. It was fun watching him drive the wheels off the thing too and to see it run to it's potential.
Wasn't much there any faster!
Walking up and down the beach looking at the different rigs and meeting all the people was tough to beat.

Marty, don't worry I never forget the offer of a boat to abuse ;)

Meant to post that although I was never positive which were the Pro Stock boats, the ones I was pretty sure about amazed me at how well they ran
I'm working on a potential new mule for my motor project that is out your way and may require a future road trip to retrieve it ;)
As I told many of you guys while in Houston, if your events weren't all 14 hr drives for me, you'd see my ugly ass way more often.
If the mule works out I will be attempting to make a couple DSRA races a yr anyhow and will drag as many Crackers along with me as can be corrupted. Too good a crew to miss out.
The camaraderie there, between teams was very enlightening. I know it was just for fun but it was still very evident.
And, thanks for the offer Larry. You may live to regret that

As I told you in the hotel parking lot, that was the one boat I should have accepted your offer on  Always wanted to drive one of those.

BTW, my Mrs now knows all about you guys and is expecting you.
See bellow. Both 3 mls from the house w/sidewalks the whole way, same distance from dock at end of our street.

yea gary this a pic you took of my prostock boat. Its the red and black one that got spanked in this race but I had a blast. It was my prostock setup at 1400lbs but the motor did have 195lbs. of compression. The boat want get any lighter with a 300lb driver.
