Hi,I recently bought a set of heads (260)and one head has a scratch across the outer sealing surface(water). The scratch is all the way across (about 1/4" long by at best 1/64" wide by afew thousanths deep) I was thinking of epoxying it and sanding flush or using a head gasket sealant on this area only during assembly. Has anyone done this or something else to make sure it seals .I don't want to have it welded and cut further.
Thanks Jim

If its on water side I would take a honing stone ( Or a large wet rock that you sharpen knives with ) and start back way away from the scratch and take down evenly the whole head area from far away and blend it in rather than using an epoxy...
Just my thoughts,

weld it, and have them just lightly cut to make sure they are flat.. they can take off just a couple of thous. wont really change comp. risky area if something goes wrong.... worse case just mill to it is gone, and sell them, and buy some different ones.

OR send them to me, I cut zillions of 260 heads a year..AND it will give your motor some more power and torque.. $175.00 USD + freight to do them CORRECTLY..2 day turn around.

So Jay, If I understand you correctly I should taper the scratch from both sides to blend it in. In reality the head will not be perfectly flat but if it is tapered ever so slightly it will still seal ? Thanks Jim

Scratch , it looks like some maroon tried to pry the head off and slipped.

I gave the area a couple strokes with a fine file and it is almost out ,I thought it was alot worse than it was,I think I can take the entire head and sand it on a piece of glass to flatten it.Thanks Jim
