Mercury XR6 Throttle Lever

I have a 2004 Mercury XR6 150 hp outboard. I am re-carpeting my boat and need to remove the throttle/gearshift lever from the side panel. Unfortunately I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to remove that lever. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I doubt i can help, but you might get more responses from the guys that can help if you put up a pic of your controls... there could be a few different types suited to your motor?

If it's a merc box pry the center button out, it will break but dealers keep them in stock because of this. There is a nut in the center, that will remove the handle.

There are covers with screws under that hold the box in place.

See if there is a panel on the bottom of the control, screws to side of boat should be behind there.
