I have two 2.5L 200's. Each motor has it's pro's and cons. One will go on the Viper. Which one is best for my application?

#1 is an early 90's (D015342) with 7 petal boysen reeds. It has the water cooled regulator, accelerator pump carbs, some corrosion bubbled paint here and there and a rusted out bleed fitting on #1 that will need replaced.

#2 '93? (OD206850) it's much cleaner. Has 5 petal steel reeds,and air cooled regulators.

#1. I would lose the 40 amp system and just go back to a 16 amp. Make a block off plate for the regulator and remount the coils.

Hey Capt. Thanks for the quick reply!!!

If I go with this motor, any recommendations on changing out the bleed fitting? So far just the little barb broke off. The fitting is a tapered press fit right? Maybe some propane heat and hold my breath while twisting? All the bleed fittings are pretty rusty. I'd feel better changing them all out.

The ones on the block are just pressed in. A little heat and a gentle twist they usually come right out. Put a little red loctite on the new one and peen it with a small punch after the new one is in.

i'd tell you to use the 93 w/ the 91's front half/carbs! the 91 most likely has compression relief slots which is less then ideal for hi performance, and convert the engine to 16 amp charging(unless you are running big stereos, etc), requires a flywheel/stator and voltage regulator/rectifier change

Depends on your intentions.....If ya gunna run tha carbs, tha 5 peddle mota will be a more user frenly mota, and still have better performance in lower rpm ranges(7000 down)...The 5 peddle front will take U to 9300rpm without problems(mota capible)...5 peddle haz throttle responce tha 7 peddle will NEVER have!!...

I'm no expert by far, but look at it like this, if 14 peddle wuz the better for userfrenly operation, Mercury would have never went to the 5 peddle!!!:D
