Powerboat P1 is coming to the U.S. They will be running under the APBA Sanctioning.
My only hope is that they eventually bring this series with them.

I think it will take offshore drilling for oil and hitting sweet crude then we might have enough guys like Dubai has with money to burn on anything they want to race, just my 2 cents

Maybe it's me but it seems anytime someone speaks of racing, they instantly feel they can't afford it.
I have followed Powerboat P1 for some time now.
They produce events and shows like they should be.
This is a business to them reaching out to a World Wide Audience.
Now if you have TV WORLD WIDE with professionally produced shows and events that are not only made up of the racing but marketable products, fashion shows, car shows or whatever all tied into the event itself, you now have a product to sell in turn, "Sponsorships".
Sponsors that would pay the bills to race with their name and products being advertised on the boat you race..
Quote from the Powerboat P1 site:
The 2007 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship had arguably the most extensive television coverage in the history of performance boat racing, reaching across four continents and a potential audience of more than 100 million viewers.
Through a balanced mix of terrestrial, satellite and cable television, Powerboat P1 action will be broadcast throughout Europe and into countries as diverse as Brazil, Canada, India, Russia and South Africa as the appeal of this exciting and glamorous motorsport championship continues to gather momentum.
Just view this page to see how much Media Exposure World Wide this company has to offer:
http://www.powerboatp1.com/partnerships/televisioncoverage.aspx
80,000,000 Homes reached in the USA alone through American Powerboat TV.
With them now teaming up with APBA, I think it is chance for the Offshore Racing to find a common ground and bring back some UNITY in this sport.

Roll cage one of them vessels and I'd be all in. They corner about as good as a bleach bottle.

That looks like Supersport in 01 & 02 until Joey's death. After that it calmed the bumper boat mentality down.

With foreclosures and unemployment setting record highs in the last quarter of 2009, I doubt there is much hope of creating any new racing for the foreseeable time.
The best way to establish a new class is to have it running already. If people have already committed to the equipment (purchased and set up) and are actually showing up to venues ... its hard to argue against it

When you start talking about everyone running stock motors, it brings back memories of Kart racing. I ran the unlimited 2 stroke class due to all of the fights and brawls in the stock classes caused by people cheating/being accused of cheating. The only fair/peaceful way would be to issue [through a lottery] IROC type engines to everyone with sealed cowlings.
