Hello bassfishindeerhunting fastrikin boatin friend
i have a 175 faststrike now, and I want MORE like you do. back in 1992 I ran a 60 degree v-6..and remembered there is a way to bypass the revlimiter on these motors.
only problem is i dont remember what wires we 'crossed up" to disconnect the rev limiter
instead of starting a new thread I figured I would ask any other s7f guys to 'remind me and let you know too
As i remember you just add 12 v to one of the powerpack wires and leave another wire unhooked.
this eliminates the rev limit, and also does away with quickstart, and the overheat slow misfire..so you have to be aware of your water pressure and understand that at high speeds, there will be no warning for overheat.
i also remember, that the motor will start differently..no increased idle until it warm up, and it actually will start after you get it spinning, and lLET OFF the key from the crank position.
so is anybodys memory better than mine to describe this quick mod??
on another thread, about older guys racing in miami, i really liked what one of the guys said.
my memory gets better with age...heck i can remember things that never happened.
so for more speed, raise the engine, 175 carbs/jets, maybe just a touch of milling on the heads if you will run 93 octane all the time, lighten up the boat...don't bring 6-8 tackle boxes full of lead jigs, get a smaller lightweight battery, take the trolling motor and batteries out for speed runs.
lets find more speed ok!!

thanks alot friend, i dont get many responses on this motor but you know they were the fastest on the market back in 91, omc did some detuning and slowed them down due complaints. oh well i know its in there somewhere, i have read about a guy in florida montegue i think that builds these worth the money. so i may check him out. the mercs and yammies have alot of bolt on stuff ecu adjustments and such so love the motor gotta get it right thanks alot any other wisdom is welcomed

there was an article in bass and walleye a couple years ago about monte souping up a faststrike on an allison bass boat it mentions there is not a heck of a lot you can do and with all the work, I think they found 4-5 mph at most.
your setup can find more speed, we sold strato for a long time they made a 174 for a year or two and they were crazy..
we had a customer who had a dummy trolling motor no guts inside the motor, and he got display batteries, that had no lead in them he was a weight freak,, he would bring like 10 ice cubes and 2 cokes, and after he outran you he would offer you a drink from his cooler!!
raise engine, lighten up what you can, jack plate good prop. and I'm gonna' find and never forget how to eliminate the rev limiter!1
