I am shedding as much weight as I can and this is going to be one of the bigger gains. Motor is a 1995 Yamaha 130hp.
1. When I pull off the pump, will I be able to pull out the shaft that drives it with the powerhead on. I cant tell how long the shaft is and only have a few inches. Need to know if I can pull the pump and drive shaft with the powerhead in place.
2. What will I need to plug the hole in the crankcase once the pump is removed? Is there a plate made for this?

pull the shaft. use the oil pump itself as a template to make a blockoff plate out of 1/8 aluminum. rtv between block off plate and block.
unlike merc's, the oil driveshaft is not in an area under crankcase compression, so there's no concern about a cylinder getting "lazy".
on the oil injection nozzles, you can do one of 2 things. cap them off or... plumb in a primer solenoid and get rid of your chokeplates. you'll shed another couple ounces (choke solenoid) and improve cold starts. merc solenoids are small and plentiful--easy to locate one and easy to mount. add an electric pump and you can lose the primer bubble and get instant cold starts when used in conjunction with a primer.

also, one of the cheapest mods you can FEEL is adding a set of these:

Thanks Mike. Just working on weight now. I figure every 10 pounds off the engine is like 15 out of the boat and she sits a little low but looking better.

understood. but I figured if your nuts enough to stick with a v4, might as well do some bolt-ons and make that crazy combo even crazier:reddevil:

Today I found out I have to add some weight back. I noticed it was running very cold (no temp gaige right now) when I pulled a plug after it idles awhile and it was cold. There are no t-stats in the engine so I need to get that fixed. Havnt checked the poppet yet. Any suggestions on t-stats or is stock fine. I am turning 6500rpm. I know I need a temp gauge. I actually need a full set of nice gauges....soon. A giant trim gauge would be great :)

oem t-stats are fine. at minimum get a water pressure gauge. if you do much shallow water running get used to cleaning the poppet, they are very sensitive to the smallest spec of sand....
